Unless we have someone else lined up, I can't see how such a small amount is going to be of any benefit to the club. I'd rather lose him at the end of next season for nothing, then take a risk on another freebie, or loanee.
That is a surprise, but the whole of the statement gives a hint to the problem. Sounds as though his agent was asking for a big increase, which the club wouldn't entertain. Not good news, but let's hope we have a read-made replacement ligned up.
Scot Carson or Paul Robinson will be linked, but we will end up with Jason Brown the nearly man who wasnt good enough when he was cover here.
Whoa! Hold your horses a second, no-one's even mentioned a fee, let alone £1m. Either him or the goalkeeping coach has been a big let down because Schmeichel visibly deteriorated over the course of the season, so in my mind it's the same as letting Paynter go, just improving our team. Doesn't mean we're a selling club in the slightest just because we make a profit by offloading spare players. As the resident Schmeichel-hater, I feel a bit happy about this in fact. I'm sure we'll chase someone better than Jason Brown after we saw what a tub of lard he was earlier this season; Westwood would be awesome and he hasn't signed anything with Sunderland yet AFAIK, though he is expected to.
It's clear Schmeichel wanted some pretty unacceptable terms, and since I have already heard he was on 20k a week with us I can imagine he was probably being unreasonable. Let him go, if he doesn't truly want to be with Leeds then he's no value to us.
Hate his bloody name anyway, if I'm honest I don't want that associated with Leeds United. I know that makes me sound like a Huddersfield supporting bitter anorak weirdo but it detracted from our season having to listen to interviews every other game with the media bigging him up as Peter Mk II. We can certainly get someone better between the sticks which will be a big boost next season in my view.
So it wasn't lazy journalism after all! I must admit the Mail's pretty good, doesn't just print any old rumour.
I'd imagine there'd be some clauses in the deal. A fee for them winning promotion next year and hopefully a big sell on fee. Leicester have money, we should be milking them, not caving in.
I hope the first bit of news on 1st July is "Gradel signs new deal with Leeds United". Otherwise it's going to be a very nervy summer.
Update: It's not taken long for Leeds United to consider Leicester City's offer for Kasper Schmeichel, with the Whites confirming the £1million bid for the goalkeeper has been accepted. More on www.skysports.com shortly. Just saying.
well we have accepted a bid on the offical website and im sure its no more than 1.5m but the word undisclosed is their so the fans dont get P****d off... seen it before from Bates..
thats my fear as well Wakey. Good job we are not a selling club really Watch us replace him with either Lonergan or Brown. cant wait to hear the clubs spin on this. More than likely we upset Kasper by going in for Westwood & being priced out due to wages. This will test Graysons scouts to the max, go get a better keeper for free because I cant see it going back into the club.
Nope, we didn't confirm it was a £1m offer, Sky Sports are lying. Since Leicester have now made a bid, we can use the other thread for Schmeichel discussion as this one's now redundant.
I seriously don't think we'd sell without having an adequate replacement lined up. Anyway apparently we do...
Anyone mind if I close this thread or would people rather I left it open? Just rather not have about five Schmeichel threads all at once!
