Really, 5 matches from the end of the season ? What would that do for the final month ? We still have a very good chance of CL qualification and winning the FA Cup, no-one is suggesting the last 2 months has been anywhere near good enough but lifting a cup and finishing 4th will not be a momumental failure, the chances of achieving that with a managerless side are much much reduced IMO....
Unfortunately , thanks to the blind faith of the board , there are now more years of sh1t memories , than good years. It says a lot that even if he wins the FA cup , it wont wipe away the bad taste of so many shocking displays . Its the equivalent to someone knocking seven bells of cr@p out of you , then giving you a mars bar before they walk away. Thanks for nothing.
If we win the FA cup I hope those slagging of the team and manager now will give them some praise and recognition, but I think it will be met with 'papering over the cracks' comments. Anyway if we do win, I'll be one Gooner celebrating like a loon
I think it's fairly obvious he meant at the end of the season. Let's not miss an opportunity for a good old personal attack though.
Wenger's a legend and a quality man. IMO I think he will leave on his own valition. He hasn't re - signed because he knows he is no longer doing the job to the standard.
As I've already said on another thread I think he's already made a decision on his future. I just hope that if he chooses to go we have fourth place and the FA Cup in the trophy cabinet
I've said I want Wenger to win the cup, but I'd still want him to leave. Let him win the cup, give us another good memory, and then leave. And winning the FA Cup will indeed pepper over the cracks, what else do you think it does? Show how great we are? You don't concede 20 goals away from home against the top 4 teams, without having serious problems. You don't go from title contenders, to struggling for 4th spot without serious problems. This season overall has shown that we have not made progress in the grand scheme of the past 9 years, it's 1 step forward, and 2-3 steps back, the same old problems persist.
I still think if we win the fa cup and get top 4 he will sign a new two year contract and inform the board it's the last he will be signing before he retires from football management. He then has a couple of years to go out on a bang, with the finances behind him, while the board work on a replacement and have it in place long before wenger actually leaves. If he fails to achieve top 4 and/or win the fa cup I don't think he will sign a new contract.
But all the evidence is he wants to prove that he can do it without utilizing too much of those "finances behind him". I really think he won't leave behind much to work with for the next man in line, so it won't matter when he goes. We better start with the rebuilding / transition stage now. Last transfer window, don't forget, we were in the same situation as we'll be in the coming one. The club, unprovoked, publicly came out ("shouting it from the rooftops" as they say) touting our financial prowess. It also coincided with us having the squad with the least strength in depth in the Wenger Era, with many areas needing reinforcements. What did he do? **** all for 3 months and got lucky with a disgruntled Real Madrid player in the end, pretty much.
And you think he's likelier to spend after the media is (somewhat) off his back for winning the FA Cup?
I dont think the media is on his back for not winning owt for a while . They are on his back because one minute he is top of the league and talking about a new belief and spirit., the next hes losing 6-0 . Its the inconsistency , they love to take the pi$$ out of. top soundbites every week . From the highs to the very lows in a matter of a few weeks. You dont get that from interviewing the West Brom manager.
'I’ve said many times I want to do well with this club and, in the end, I will sit down and think how well have I done with the team I have had. That has to be sufficient for me to decide yes or no. ‘One of the main judgments you can have about a manager is how well he does with his team.’ he deserves to win nothing .
