Saddened to hear of the passing of âSkipper Jockâ, a tremendous club stalwart of the 50,s and 60's, always looked after his lads on or off the pitch.
Hull City are today mourning the death of the clubâs record appearance holder Andy âJockâ Davidson after he passed away at the age of 81. A legend of the club, Davidson went on to make a total of 579 appearances for the Tigers in a playing career that spanned 16 seasons. Associated with Hull City for over 30 years, Davidson arrived at Boothferry Park as a teenager in 1947 and remained until finally departing as assistant managerâs position in 1979, 32 years later. Born in Douglas in 1932, he made the move south of the border as a 14-year-old in 1947 to join his brother at Boothferry Park. Five years later heâd made his first of those 579 appearances with a debut against Blackburn Rovers. Often utilised throughout the side in his early days in a Tigersâ shirt, he would soon cement himself at right-back, a position for which he will ever be synonymous with the club. Davidson was a key figure in Cityâs hugely successful 1965/66 campaign when they won the old Third Division title and reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. After injury curtailed his career in 1967 he moved onto the back room team and stayed a further 11 seasons at Hull as part of the coaching staff. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...tory-20922577-detail/story.html#ixzz2yBhiGy51 RIP Jock.
RIP. such a shame just when we are so close to getting to our first fa cup final ever. Its important that everyone who can, gets to the semi final because you never know what the future holds.
One of my early heroes. I remember an excellent photo of him with a diving header to clear the ball off the line in a FA Cup replay (early/mid 60s?) away at Everton.
I had the pleasure to what him in his pomp in the sixties, great professional, very good right back and always gave 100%. RIP Andy.
One club man, record appearances, three broken legs, Hull City through and through. We may never see another like him. In the Ian Ashbee mould......and that's praise indeed. Great memories of him captaining the club through some glorious times, 65/66....... Times that are getting eclipsed on a weekly basis today. At the start of a history making week for the club we have sadly lost one of our greatest assets. Never forget were we came from and never forget who made us what we are. Andy Davidson, I salute and thank you.
Great servant to the club and first Captain I saw when started watching City. Always a solid, no nonsense professional who never backed out of a challenge, hence the broken legs. Hope the Club wear armbands on Sunday as a mark of respect. RIP
He was a great professional - always gave 100 per cent and was certainly worth his place in that great team of the mid-60s. I watched him many times although I never actually met him, however, my (non-football watching) dad used to regularly play dominoes with him and always commented on what a smashing bloke he was. RIP Jock.
