Well, apparently they've done it only once and a half "Fulham were âinsisting that Rene Meulensteen had not been sackedâ on Saturday and that the Dutchman would, in theory, be âexpected to report for dutyâ when Magath meets the clubâs backroom staff. The Daily Mirror added that âFulham still value him as a coach... but believe he lacks the authority and the nous to continue as the top man.â Naive of Rene not to ask for a manager contract when Jol was sacked. Tim the Weasel Sherwood handled it smartly.
Can't see him carrying on as a coach and reporting to a new manager. He'll be out the door by "mutual agreement" soon enough.
Yeah, Rene won't do it. He played the media yesterday and confirmed his "sacking" to pave the way to a settlement. Don't blame him.
West Brom boss Pepe Mel is fighting for his future after six games in charge. The Spaniard was appointed on 9 January but the Baggies are yet to win under him and are just a point above the Premier League relegation zone. West Brom results under Mel Victor Anichebe •20 Jan: West Brom 1-1 Everton •29 Jan: Aston Villa 4-3 West Brom •2 Feb: West Brom 1-1 Liverpool •8 Feb: Crystal Palace 3-1 West Brom •11 Feb: West Brom 1-1 Chelsea •22 Feb: West Brom 1-1 Fulham Senior players have expressed their concerns to Mel after struggling to adapt to the 50-year-old's preference for a high-tempo pressing game. Chairman Jeremy Peace would not baulk at taking action if the club's top-flight status had to be safeguarded. The Baggies' next game is against Manchester United at The Hawthorns, a week on Saturday. Mel's side were due to face fellow strugglers Sunderland this weekend, but the Black Cats are in the Capital One Cup final. West Brom have won just four Premier League games this season and have drawn 13 times, the highest in the top flight. It is understood the players' preference is to adopt West Brom's usual counter-attacking style, which helped them finish eighth last season and 10th the previous term. Former Real Betis manager Mel signed an 18-month contract to replace Steve Clarke, but it is significant the recent appointment of David Gomez as his right-hand man is only until the end of the season. Behind the scenes, the club are still trying to manage the loss of sporting director Dan Ashworth, who joined the Football Association last year. His replacement, Richard Garlick, is inexperienced in the role and director of technical performance and scouting David McDonough is becoming increasingly influential. McDonough is fluent in Spanish and is spending more time at the training ground, trying to help Mel get his message across to the players. He was a key figure in recruiting the head coach and the feeling is he now has more influence than Garlick on Peace. The Baggies are also considering overhauling their scouting network as the system honed by Ashworth has failed to secure impressive returns in the past two transfer windows. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26350661
News just in Chris Hughton has been fired at Norwich! They were beaten by West Brom 1-0 yesterday but surely this is bad timing? He has been replaced by Neil Adams (Brian Adams' brother presumably). Will this affect our game with them? Our games with them are usually guarantied 3 points but they might get a buzz out a new manager coming in. Or is it a crazy decision which may relegate Norwich? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26916661
Beat me to it Mods feel free to merge my thread Hopefully with only a few games to go it as a negative effect on them rather than a new man getting them up for the fight. Just hope Suarez's gets his customary hatrick.
Where do Norwich really think they should be? There a average team and should expect a relegation fight till they improve.
Yeah just noticed that - great minds and all that Its a bizarre choice as they have been picking points up before they start their horrible run in to the end of the season. Now they sack the manager before the run in so they could just lose everything. They must have been close to pulling the trigger for some time for this to push them to making a change. And yeah hope Suarez has a ball.
based on both seasons before this one, we should be around 11th/12th/13th. We should also be playing football that isnt the dire rubbish we've had to watch all this season.
Whilst I take your point on the style of football. What makes you think you should finish that high? I see the teams above you and most of them would appear, on paper, to be better.
Their last 4 games are bloody tricky. Got to feel for the guy that they've put in place now, no experience in management and is expected to keep them up with the hardest run in of all the teams. Unless they replace him with someone, in which case they must have someone already lined up and were thinking about sacking him for a few weeks.
Would probably only suggest Hull & Palace, given they are both new into the league but they are only 2 and 4 points above.
