Did not see the game as I was driving back from L'pool so had to listen on the radio. Seemed we played fairly average and the match was ruined by dodgy refereeing. Having to listen to David Pleat twittering on about Theiry Henri while the game was going on was torture, he is there to comment on the match he is watching not history.
Indeed it was hilarious to see lfC just play it long better than west lump and see it hold up for our lads to get chances
I understood what he meant. Flanno and their keeper touched the ball but the bounce fell to Flanno who couldn't take advantage having been hacked down. Not a penalty IMO though.
It really isn't that controversial. I agree with Brendan, but imo it wasn't a penalty. Considering their goal, I'd happily take it. No complaints from me.
Not sure why you think it's not a penalty. If the keeper hadn't bought him down the ball was sat there for him to roll in. Although he touched the ball he made sure he made enough contact. Penalty for me and from refs position it Definately was. Thought BR came up with another good tactical change and we dominated the second half. Tough tough game and it's sad to see ateam like the hammers playing such boring direct football. So on to man city...that's going to be a real nervous 90 minutes. Hope Sturridge can learn how to shoot by then.
Lucas coming on in the 2nd really allowed Hendo to dictate the tempo and he was very good. Without doing anything that jumps out, he quietly controlled the midfield in the 2nd half. I thought Sakho slotted back into the team nicely and was very good also. Got caught out occasionally but mainly controlled the greasy pikey donkey quite well. Do we think Sakho should feature in the run-in or Agger (if fit). I think Sakho has a bit more grit and physicality that we need for the final few games.
I like sakho. And as city pose an aerial threat think he should stay in. Also his passing is very good.
I wasn't confident but said we'd win 1-2 and we have!! Another good result and it sets us up for the first of the biggies against City. Come on you Reds. We're at least giving ourselves a chance!
Yeah, Sakho, although doesn't look like he should be, is just as good as Agger on the ball. He's also better at defending from crosses. Not just in the air, but also marking. Agger gets beaten by movement in the box way too easily and Sakho is probably better than that. He does dive in sometimes and tries to win the ball in front of the forward which at times, can get us into trouble if he misses, but if he gets it right it allows us to counter quickly. I certainly wouldn't complain if Sakho started next week, especially if they play Dzeko/Negredo. Aguero is apparently fit, but will he start? Not sure...
i think jamie redknapp gives fuel to the lunacy... the keeper didn't get the ball first his palm touched the ball and actually slowed it up form flanagan who could have got it had the keepers hand not ploughed along flanagan's leg! no pen... bull. It was a pen. simple as the rule is not if the keeper gets any touch he can do what he wants. the rule is he must win the ball. he didn't. If it had been a cb doing it its a pen... all day. Same for first clear hand ball. the guy himself made a half hearted effort at pretending it was not... he knew what he'd done clearly.
indeed... but least risk at that particular time is to punch.... small thing, i don't blame him for trying to catch but if he'd punch it out.. ref blows up, thats just the circumstance at the time. I hope he learns for it as a YOUNG keeper still.
I can't believe we're now winning games like this. This had draw written all over it. Or maybe even a loss! 5 games to go, bloody hell
He should always catch them- it's directly at him, no chance of him dropping it unless he's fouled. Which he was.
Minimum of 8 points ahead (if Everton win their game in hand) with only 15 to play for. We'd have to drop 8 points (taking into account GD) in 5 games, 2 defeats and a draw while Everton win every one of their games.
