Slightly on topic, but BBC is reporting that Villas-Boas is set to take over at Chelsea.

A lot of those 59 games would have been in his early career coming from the bench. He'd be a great signing, showed a bit of quality setting up Wellbeck last night and hit the bar with a screamer the match before. I'd sign him anyday.

Don't want him, has performed ok for half a season and scored league 8 goals, just flavour of the month, certainly wouldn't spend the sort of money people are talking about. Couldn't get a game at City or Chelsea. Got 2 more goals than Shola and 2 less than Steven Fletcher at Wolves in the league last season, well worth £20M

So his best quality is that he's younger than Shola :)

I'm pleased to see some other sensible people not being sucked in by Sturridge's recent good form. Way to pricey and there is similar and better I feel we could get.

Also, seems to me Sturridge is very ball greedy, not what we what with the midfield we have now!

He may have just hit a good run of form with Bolton but when you ewatch him his movements good, he can go past players and he's got a excellent touch. Some of his finishes last season were quality as well.

I'd be wary about spending alot on him for the reasons mentioned but I certainley wouldn't mind him playing in a Newcastle top, think he'd be worth the risk.

Selfish player, reminds me of Gyan and i'm sure most of us on here agreed Gyan wouldn't be a good signing? Rated at £20m for half a season is pathetic. Wouldn't be surprised if Welbeck stays at Man Utd scores 7 or 8 and gets rated at £20m. If he wasn't English he wouldn't be raved over or have a price tag of over £10m

Whatever people think, it's useless speculating at the price tag. I don't know if Chelsea saying £20m is paper talk or fact. It'll all boil down to who is in charge. If they see something they like in Sturridge then he won't leave, or we'd have to pay top dollar. If they don't see him as part of their plans then he could realistically be available at a reasonable price. So lets wait and see. They're not going to agree a deal to sell before a manager is appointed.

It's also what other teams are willing to pay. It's all ok if Chelsea say he's only worth 12. We offer 12, Spurs offer 15 etc etc. Could start a bidding war.

Sturridge looks class, I don't understand how anyone can knock him on his goals to game ratio over his entire career. Andy Carroll was ****e for years at Newcastle before a cracking CC season and decent (barring injury) Prem season. Sturridge is still only 21 and scored 8 goals in his last 12 games, as opposed to Shola who scored 9 in his last 30. They are beyond comparison. He got great service at Bolton and there's no reason he can't get better service here with the players we have.

Some people really seem blind to potential unless they're watching Lionel Messi. Look at our strikers ffs, Sturridge is head and shoulders better than what we have (including Ba too imo) and if Carroll cost £35m then Sturridge would be a snip at £15m.

Didn't Spurs offer £11m for Duff yet we paid £5m?

I'd be interested for a reasonable sum, but he's young, English and pays for Chelsea, so you'll probably have to pay at least double what he's worth. £6-8m would be good.

If Henderson is £20m, then £10-12m for Sturridge is a steal.

But Henderson isn't worth £20m and Carroll isn't worth £35m.

    The world has gone crazy.

I don't get these "if so-and-so is worth..." comments. You can't justify a bad decision by saying other people have made worse. Carroll and Henderson weren't worth what Liverpool paid for them, and £15m is obscene for someone with just 14 first team goals to his name.

They can be justified to an extent though, Sturridge is no more or less a gamble than Gameiro as Gameiro played all his career in an inferior league but they'll both cost around the same. Stikers are always overpriced, young strikers more so and young, ENGLISH strikers even more so. Doesn't make him a better player like but that's just the way it is. Carroll and Henderson are both examples of hugely overpriced players snapped up by a cash-chucking "I want that one, at any cost" regime. If Sturridge goes on to knock 20 goals in next season (which he's more than capable of in a good setup) he'll be valued at around £30m without doubt so £10-£15m doesn't seem too high a gamble when you look at it like that.

I'm all for buying cheap foreign talent but I'd love us to splash out for some home grown talent like Sturridge or Whickham.
