Doubt it would matter. Having watched Mark Hughes highly informative and interesting piece on the Mercedes turbochrger on Sky earlier, Renault & Ferrari would need a completely new engine as can't see how they could copy Merc's design efficiently.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. The more they can develop the engine, the more likely they are to gain some ground. Granted Mercedes will improve too, but Renault and Ferrari appear to have more flaws with their engines, to which fixes would bring performance more quickly.

So red bull and Ferrari want engine change rules relaxed. No suprise really as Renault reportedly have a new improoved engine already in waiting so it would be instant for them ..

Well that's what I reckon not sure 100% it is though. I smell a 2011 EBD change with what happened with RBR that all the teams ganged up and forced them to change it.

This time it's more that just RBR and the faux support of STR. Mercedes, Williams, force India and maybe McLaren will all be out to protect their advantage :)

Then I guess we might have to stick with 8 cars racing soon enough and watch the fireworks fly. <laugh>

It's a sticky situation. Teams won't want to look bad by stifling competition, but they still Want to win. Might see a change allowed after renault and ferrari use up a load of engines :)

Disgraceful stuff by these weight limitations: http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/vergne-hospitalised-amid-extreme-f1-diets/

This should be top priority, not who has the best power unit...

Actually, I was in hospital between the Grands Prix in Australia and Malaysia because of a lack of water and a little bit of lack of everything. I was very weak," the 23-year-old revealed.

Vergne said that while the minimum car-plus weight limit was raised by the FIA for the new turbo V6 rules, the 692kg figure is still far too low.
"Frankly, this (situation) is stupid," he insisted.

Vettel might be getting a grid penalty himself:

Thierry Salvi, Renault Engines Team Support Leader: “Again a tough session today and quite different for our drivers. We had to work on Seb’s car before qualy and had to face several issues. Seb started in a downgraded mode since we found a damaged wastegate and then the team experienced some problems with the downshifts. We were able to manage during the session until the last run of Q2.

I hope they fix the problem so we can see vettel coming through the pack. If he has a broken engine then that's another fun battle ruined.
