Just so you know, there's a little enclave of QPR fans here in Melbourne, me and the boy! Well, look he's got his little QPR kit even though he's just had his first birthday so no doubt he'll go through the same pain as me! With the amount of money all of us have spent at LR and on awaydays in various times all of us are entitled to voice our opinions where ever we are. I for one 'did my time' from '83 to '05 so a certain amount of ups and downs were witnessed. But QPR wouldn't be QPR if it wasn't run by some dodgy individual, for some reason we seem to attract them, from Jim Gregory to Bernie the Midget it's always been that way. We tear our hair out with frustration but still we come back, at least our football life is interesting. So interesting in fact that we get the Welsh and Norwich fans voicing their opinions on our board!
Just wanted to share this with you guys: there are those parents that don't bring their kids up proper, and they go off the rails and support the "big 4", without giving their local side or other teams a chance. Whilst I live not too far from Bournemouth, I have now adopted them as my second team after the Superhoops, but before i waffle on, last week i saw a family of 4, three or whim were in the QPR colours in the local Supermarket, and yesterday (and I don't know whether theis was the same kid) a youngster also wearing a QPR shirt. Just wanted to share with you all that parents can bring their kids up properly!! Now just got to convince me nephew that it is time to support the R's, after all, his first game wass the Play -off final against Cardiff and he has been to LR a few times since
Would you say that geographical distance and/or an opposing view in any way invalidates a reasoned comment on this board of ours? no i would not.. .i now live 12000 miles from london and as anyone who knows me here can tell you my love of QPR has not diminished one iota.. it dosent matter whether you come from sheperds bush or timbuktu if you chose QPR over all the other glory hunting teams you are one of us.. i am surrounded here by rugger buggers and most of them now keep an eye on QPR.. only just noticed for the first time my keyboard has no pound sign. as for chelseahehe, the biggest sugar company here seems to be chelsea sugar. the only time it is bought into my house is when the shops have no other brand. petty i know...but hell a man needs to stick to his principles. QPR4EVER no matter where you come from..
dave the only other qpr supporter i know over here is picking the month with the most home games he can get to, as his holidays this year...24000 mile round trip for a home game
I actually now live in St Albans (but am a Shepherds Bush native born and bred) so I don't think the geography argument holds up in my case. I am keen to play devil's advocate sometimes as the mainstream opinion on here is very unquestioning for the most part and without a range of opinions these kind of sites are pretty pointless. It's actually been ironic in recent weeks to see how the usual faces have all jumped on the 'everything's going to pot' bandwagon since the Mittals were put in their place. In the past anyone being in the slightest bit negative or non-partisan have been slammed by the uber-optimists but now it seems that those folks are at the heart of the bad news season. So the message is simple: just enjoy the conversation and don't try to block everything you find contoversial or not 'on-message'. BTW I do think that Eamon is on the right track regarding the Mittals. I have seen absolutely nothing other than some good PR exercises to convince me that their intentions for QPR are any better than Ecclestone/Briatori. They could fix that very easily of course starting with a reasonable bid for the club that would get us shot of the F1 crowd. Instead we have prevarication.
Hey - finally got a mention!!!! Wanted to add - the other thing that needs mentioning is that 'distant fans' doesn't always mean geography. I've been a QPR fan for a long time, used to have a season ticket, born and bred in West London, and slowly moved out across the years (but I'm still within 30 miles of Loftus Road). So distance and travel isn't the issue, but money, work, family, other commitments over the years have adjusted themselves so that, for the few games I can manage a season, it's no longer worth getting a season ticket. The best I can now manage is a Membership, so that I have a better shout of getting tickets as and when I am able. My work now takes me around 50 miles in the wrong direction, so midweek games are impossible, and weekends are pretty much taken up with work, kids, and gigging with the band, so there's only a few weekends over the season that become available to me. Do I feel more 'distant' from my club as a result? Yes... yes I do. Do I feel any less of a supporter? And do I feel that my opinion is any less valid as a result? Hell no. What I would change about this place? I think that the only thing that bugs me is that threads too often get derailed as soon as a supporter of another club dares to comment. There are some posters from other clums (most notably Norwich, Cardiff and Watford) who come here because they know they will get sensible debate, but all too often what they get is abuse and a directive to "**** off back to their own board." Once that happens, the thread always comes to a halt in an almost sectarian diatribe. EDIT: The thread about Bothroyd is an exact case in point. Thanks, guys, for proving me right..... Again..... Get rid of that habit, and be more accepting of other fans, and this board will immediately get 10 times better for me.
Agree with this Brixton, thanks to the Watford board on this site, I managed to get a ticket to see my team promoted. That wouldn't of happened on 606.
It seems every fan from Swansea at the minute who comes on here is coming here for a wind up so again I would disagree with most of Willy's comments I think the Swansea moderator is to blame for this though as he has a dig at QPR on here and the Swansea site and it is encouraging others
I think it's time everyone called a truce, draw a line under what has passed and try to start again - like adults. (Waits for the inevitable )
I think.... well, I won't say exactly what I think, just that you are a) wrong and b) responsible for most of what I said above. However, please try not to derail this thread as well. please.
Response to Willy. I agree with your attitude to 'wumming'. However, as futile and superficial as 'ner ner' may be, I have to accept that some fans think that that's what the competitive nature of football is all about... I happen to prefer interacting with other fans on a respectful 'love of the game' level but accept that that's just me, you and significant others. I'm quite happy to see incidental or repeated observation turn into wum threads - but what really irritates me is when ner ner intrudes into straight debating threads: all the carefully worked out points get lost in an ocean of abuse. I made the point about the Watford board for precisely that reason: when I get time to go over there, we discuss topics beyond our loyalty to our clubs (taken as given) and I'm always warmly received. Whilst we do do likewise with some visiting fans, where they come with due respect, I'd like to see us having the integrity to follow Watford's example. However, end of the day, live and let live.
Maybe it's time for forum aparthite: Board 1: people who want to discuss QPR with an open mind, a sense of hunour and without abuse from those unable to construct a decent argument. Board 2: those who just want to lob insults and shout others down preferably without having to write more that one line. I would spend most of my time on Board 1 but I reserve the right to join in the fun on Board 2 every now and again.
Your a decent poster mate, don't worry that andrewqpr disagrees, he's just one of the idiots on this board, along with a few others. The problem is with the Moderator on here North, who does nothing to stop the clap trap from these QPR idiots, who have been dishing out their anti-Welsh bile for too long, of course when I've responded with the same, well it's cry baby time from North, not good enough mate, put your own house in order, before you start on ours, and by the way I have replied to your email, and you pathetic attempt to threaten me with a ban, that is a two way street. please log in to view this image
