The act of surrendering or giving up.

It just about sums up the soulless and cowardly performances of late.

An after match report from NUFC.com

    Non-runners

    Newcastle 0 Manchester United 4

Newcastle were simply not at the races on Grand National day and a weakened away side ultimately won at a canter, without even breaking stride.

Three alterations to the starting XI humiliated at Southampton last week made not one iota of difference and aside from the away following, the atmosphere at St. James' Park was funereal.

Davide Santon, Dan Gosling and Luuk De Jong all started but made little or no impact, other than contributing in their own ways to the defeat, Gosling conceding the free-kick that resulted in Juan Mata's opening goal six minutes before the break.

And as soon as Manchester United took the lead the game was as good as over. The Magpies looked as disinterested as they did at St. Mary's with heads dropping and confidence draining away.

As this season disappears into the mire, Toon fans are now attending from a sense of duty and loyalty rather than enjoyment or anticipation, with no expectation of anything other than the dross they were served up today.

Second half goals from Mata again, as Fabricio Coloccini's defending once more bordered on comical, Javier Hernandez and early substitute Adnan Januzaj in added time completed the debacle but incredibly Papiss Cisse could have had a hat-trick at the other end.

A first half overhead kick was saved by Anders Lindegaard and the Danish stopper denied him twice in the second half, one from point blank range but the home side could have played another five hours and still not found the net.

So three games, eleven goals conceded and none scored against teams near us in the Premier League table tells a tale of its own and the five remaining games may be best viewed through fingers.

The limp to the end of the season continues at a pace....

Playing well, showing a bit of desire, being well managed and organised, having a class act ball player, stringing together good results.....................................all things missing now

You know what they say about the early bird! Working da for me today. Quite relaxing honestly after watching that shower of ****e yesterday. Saving grace is I can't make either of the last two home games, so I don't have to go through it again. And again. And again.

Wel until next season when it starts all over again.

Someone has it right with their username, its the hope that kills.
