I once paid 35% income tax in a country that had **** roads, schools and hospitals (it had many other redeeming qualities outside of it's **** socialist government, mind) - our company had to pay for private health insurance and most middle class people sent their kids to private school (after paying the 35% tax, which applied to people earning over about £15k!). I also once lived in Belfast, where men with guns would go round local businesses and demand money for protection in order for those businesses to operate in the local area. The two scenarios are not that different from each other, coercion was used in both cases to give **** services that were not wanted by the citizen.
Come and live in London. You know you want to. Despite what that **** Gove says, the schools are pretty good.
We are sadly letting our main thoroughfares go to rack and ruin. I personally miss "real" shops on the High Street. Now it's all cafes, pound shops, bookies and pawn shops. I'd say about a sixth of all shops on Union Street are dilapidated and empty. So sad it used to be like everywhere else the hub of the city. Even only 20 years ago the high street was bustling and so clean. Now because of no bypass and the subsequent heavy articulated traffic which goes up Holburn Street, down Union Street and then along King Street the toll on the external surfaces of the buildings is shocking. Sad to see.
I'd like to at some point, but I'm not rich - and the tax rate and cost of living combined are some fairly big obstacles to ever getting rich in London.
I like going to London but it's not a place I'd like to live. After about a week am glad to get the hell out of it.
Aye, I know exactly how you feel, Allan. It's a great night out, lots of variety and choices, but the place is full to the brim of dickheads.
Never been in Scotland...feels he had the knowledge to judge... London's full if wee ****s...that's why you feel at home.
Have to agree Alan... Great place to visit...fir pubbing n clubbing. Also, fir an amazing choice of restaurants. But yes...full if ****s.
I'm happy I've never had to suffer living any further north than London. Somehow I don't think i'm missing out...
Most of your strong opinions are on subjects you know very little about, such as living north of London.
I spent around 10 years on and off working in London and commuted back home most weekends. The missus came down for weekends that I did not go back home. We had some fantastic times there. But, it was always a relief to get the hell out of it.
^^ yeppers Lived in London for 5 years. Great place to live and go out, but it was always a relief to travel out of London once a month or so.
I'm not disagreeing with that, I can't wait to move out. I would just never want to live anywhere that's more cold and depressing than London, it's the furthest north i'm willing to live.
I'm still in my job, last day will be the 16th. How's the nursing home? They still beating you in your sleep? I blame the Tories
