The Premier League Thread - Part II

Just been reading about Saints being in a 10 year slump against winning at the Etihad stadium.

Fair enough, one might say, as it recalls James Beattie and Kevin Phillips efforts when we last beat them there. Then it goes on to talk about the 10 year lack of success. OK, so what..? Well surely you have to have the opportunity to play these teams for it to be an issue, and for several years Saints didn't. I'm not criticising the website, or the teams, or anyone, save this modern way of expressing a fact that doesn't actually exist. The other month I heard that Cardiff City hadn't won in the league against a particular team since 1962, or some such era. The fact that they hadn't played them in the league since 1962, didn't seem to matter..! On this occasion, the factoid was uttered by our favourite presenter, Gary Lineker, but it is prevalent everywhere in the sports media. Mind you, you'd think the Beeb would try harder. The media gloss over so many important details in the pursuit of headline sentences, and I find that it occasionally piddles me off because, in the case of the above article, it is the basis of the entire piece.

The way things are at the moment, particularly with Norwich losing, a Fulham goal changes everything. That great escape which I mentioned earlier this week suddenly would look on.

 

Newcastle 0-2 Man United - Mata has another.

 

If these results hold, I think that we can be pretty confident which three are going down. Nightmarish scorelines if you're a Sunderland supporter.

The goal-line review of that is ridiculous. Maybe a millimeter of the ball not over the line. And now Fulham's keeper pulls off a massive save.

 

If results with QPR and Derby (both losing), stay as they are. Leicester City will be promoted to join us in the Premier League today.
