Yeah, that's why they are the works team and the others are customer teams. It's the same with Ferrari and their customer teams and Renualt (RBR works team as engine developed with them) and everyone else.

All 3 have massive budgets over the rest, so they will always be at the front more than their respective customer teams.

Looked like he applied too much throttle and the surge of power caught him out. But it could be software glitch for all we know.

Looking very mixed behind the Mercedes. Even Perez looks handy. Kvyat impressive.

Does look like they are properly struggling. Not shown much speed at all so far.

Horner suggesting it was driver error for Vettel when asked. Kravitz - "too much power?" Horner - "can guarantee its not that". Ouch to Renault!

What a surprise, though, RBR not doing well and Horner is not his usually chirpy slap him in the face happy/smug.

Why are the bulls struggling so much on this track? I know they didn't get much of a test here but I was thinking they shouldn't be struggling this much after pulling back somewhat recently.

Car steps out the second the massive torque kicks in so driver error, Seb must be overdriving the car now and getting desperate to keep up and starting to show some cracks which is to be expected.

Just not Red Bull, all the Renault powered teams are struggling, Ferrari less so but Mercedes top 6 lockout is all that needs to be said. If they all drive well we might have a top 8 lockout of just Mercedes power units with Ferrari 9th and 10th.

Vettel was just pushing to see the limits. Looks like a fight for q3 so he's pushing it to the limit for practice. Only practice so no harm done <ok>

RBR weren't quick here for either winter test, probably why we were surprised they were better than expected at Aus and Mal.

Torro Rosso ahead of them though, so does suggest it's both car and engine for RBR

Kvyat is something special. Sensible and quick. Magnussen has gone under the radar a bit.

The red bulls front wing looks kinda bare... Seems like it is quite plain for this session could anyone explain....lots of the usual bits and pieces seem to be missing.

I believe we might see a problem with Hamilton and Rosberg trying to cross the line past in qualifying as I think the last man of the two that crosses that line will put it on poll. The times between them have been very close even though Hamilton always seem to squeeze out a little more. So that is something to watch out for...how will mercedes play it is anyone's guess.

But wouldn't that affect the overall balance and performance of the car..and especially in corners? Just asking

    Autosport

13:08 Our newshound JONATHAN NOBLE has spotted the FIA president:

"Jean Todt has been walking up and down the paddock this morning. He's just made a dive in to the Red Bull garage. Could it be time for his little chat with Vettel?"

Todt wants to talk to Vettel about the comments he made about the sound of the new-for-2014 F1 engines, and the foul language he used during that rant.

Maybe he went to ask what's wrong with the cars...
