    ...............Forster

    Simpson...Campbell...Perch...Enrique

    Barton...Nolan...Cabaye...Routledge

    ..........Carroll....Ba

Subs: Harper, Best, Guthrie, Xisco, LuaLua, Donaldson, Kadar

Would probably give the current lads a good runaround.

Just looking at his stats, since he left us in January 2011 he has played 77 premiership games and scored 15 goals (according to Wiki). That's poor form, even considering his injuries and fall from grace at Liverpool. Of course, he is more than a goalscorer, he can cause havoc at the heart of defences with his power, height and indeed his touch. Not only was £35 million far too good to turn down but his subsequent injuries and form have only backed up the decision to sell.

Would still like to see him back here though <laugh>

I know he's a Geordie, but howay, Carroll was nowt compared with Ba. Ba is one of the best strikers we've had, ever. The lad was lethal, a goal-scoring machine, even with a lacklustre midfield involving Obertan and Jonas, which provided him bugger all. Genuinely, I think it's a tragedy he's sitting on the Chelski bench. What a waste.

I feel blessed to have been able to see a player of that quality in a toon top. Shame he and Remy didn't come along at the same time!

Two completely different types of player, Ba and Carroll. And both have done relatively nothing since leaving here. You are right about Ba surely not being happy with warming the bench though......I can only think he is being paid gross sums of money to do so.

Of course like most I miss Barton and Nolan, as well as Perch; I had a soft spot for Best as well. But in terms of overall talent and position, I'd have to say Enrique. Easily our best left-back of recent times, and we've really struggled to replace him.

Of course if this question is posed in 12 months time, there will be only one answer on every Toon fans lips.

I think the question would have to be changed for that to be the answer.

Is the question: "Who is the favourite player of the Not606 poster known as 'Beardsley's Rancid Sack'?"

Look at Ba since. Even previous to us he was never that good. The only conclusion I can draw is it was all down to Pardew and he's not actually as good as we thought <whistle>

I've heard Demba has been bombarding Pards with texts about a summer return. Pards has been texting him back with the same 6 words each time "dicky knee twenty eight mike Ashley"

    Enrique and Carroll.

When fit and on form Enrique is the best LB in the league for me. Carroll because he's a pure battering ram, he makes the ball stick, we were a threat from set pieces with him and he's also great when defending set pieces too. A complete striker for me, he just offers the team so much even if his goal ratio is only 1 in every 3-4 games (still equates to around 10-12 a season).

Imagine Remy to the left of Carroll or Ba with Sissoko providing bullets from the right. Lethal.

Remy and Carroll would be the perfect strike partnership. Pace to run the channels and get in behind and power/strength to bring others in to play. With those two up top you'd be guaranteed a top 10 finish if they remained fit.

Does anyone really miss Simpson? Guy might have tried but he was ultimately a liability. Would I swap him for Debuchy? Not on your life.
