People's memories are playing tricks with them. In terms of sheer lack of guile, quality, and fight..that was an absolute shocker at Sheff Utd under Powell. For a combination lacking all 3, I can't recall many worse. Northwich Victoria and D&R under Parky were also terrible <wah>

I am sure we lost 2-1 at home to Wycombe in the League Cup Q/F under Les. I recall Jermaine Easter scoring for them?

No, but neither should that one defeat and bad performance be reason to sack a manager, as you said above.

I am trying to strike a work/life balance Billy, being a thoroughly modern metrosexual sort of bloke. I cannot possibly post after every game <sorry>

It was 1-0, as FHB said above. You're right though, it was the League Cup Q/F, under Les, and Easter did score their goal.

No-one is saying the performance at Sheff Utd was good, merely that, bearing in mind all the contextual factors (their really good form) it probably wasn't as bad as the others that have been mentioned. Their team was better than the Walsall, Swindon, Northwich Victoria, D&R teams we put in such horrendous performances against.

I think he just doesn't ,didn't like Powell full stop ... So loves to steam into him all water under the bridge as CP has gone now.

It wasn't one defeat and bad performance - it was at least six months of solid mediocrity which saw only 6 league wins/tunnel jumps and only 24 league goals.

I will never be able to revel in the 101 point Div 3 freebie like some- yes, I went to most of the games BTW....we should never have sunk to that pygmy level in the first place.

Its a bit like Brad Pitt boasting that he has pulled Hayley from Coronation St in a nightclub.

    Nope.

Quite liked him as a player, didn't rate him as a coach/manager.tactician. Before anyone starts throwing mud, Keith Jones was one of my favourite Charlton players.

All I was responding to was Ponders' statement that he should have been sacked after the Millwall game, purely because it was Millwall we lost to.

Calling Division 3 a freebie is ridiculous. It's a tough league to get out of.

Its a lot easier when you get given over £1m to buy 14 new players. It should be erased from our record books.

You have to buy the right players, and get them to gel. Powell did that superbly. AVB at Spurs showed that it isn't easy.

Powell did get lucky with the Jenkinson sale. But he still did fantastically well to let other players go (Racon, McCormack, Semedo et al) and to sign players who not only dominated L1 but also kept us up with some comfort in the Championship.

A freebie talking total crap now..it was a great achievement to get us up and he spent the money superbly plus to slag off league one is very patronising.
Quite liked him as a player says it all.
But each to their own I suppose.

I'm a little suprised it took so long to mention Northwich, and the pitch invader match (0-4 v Brighton) hasn't been mentioned yet.

Pastry's gone soggy. Showing up now, as with the triumphal returns post Forest and Leeds.

I won't tell you my mother's maiden name, FHB. <ok>

Pardew spent well over £1m and didn't even finish 6th.

I didn't mean he should have been sacked because it was Millwall, but I do mean it was the right time to sack him.

The signs of deep rot were showing by that point and that particular result/performance just topped it all off.

I'm relieved CP has gone but I do not revel in the fact, and I will never denigrate his achievements.

I also liked John Humphery, Mark Reid, Scott Minto, Danny Mills - all better full backs than Chris Powell IMO.

You don't answer his points, and you call him a plum. Great debating, that <doh>

He is auditioning to be the next Eamon Dunphy of 606.... again. Dunphy is also an opinionated & poorly informed plum BTW. I always approach replying to IA's posts with the irrefutable logic that I was actually at the games he posts about, and by and large, he wasn't <doh>

What's that got to do with his point comparing Powell's and Pardew's spending?

Being at the games enables you to make more informed points regarding how good or bad performances were, although you get some sense of it listening to the radio too. It doesn't mean that you're right and he's wrong.

IA was at the Forest game last week.
