You must be an indecisive Libran like me, IA. We always see both sides. Mind you, we Librans are also too cynical to believe any of this astrological stuff.
Sheffield utd in the cup the worst performance since curbs left ... I think not ... We had lots of performances as bad in the relegation year...remember sheff utd at home Pardews last game I think what about a 1 0 defeat at home to Walsall on a snowy sunday afternoon.. There's loads worse. As for where CP ends up well it won't be a premiership team obviously BUT if we do go down and we ain't safe yet or even if we don't but JR moves on or pushed where do you think he"ll end up Real Madrid so stupid argument. There is a complete prick who sits behind me and has spent the last two seasons abusing Powell telling him to sort it out constantly. As soon as he went every pass is applauded even in the woeful Burnley performance . Just rediculous he even applauded Pritchard on to the pitch after spending every moment he has been on the pitch calling him a C word . Sadly that's the mentality of some of of our fans. Not a bovril drinker myself BUT I much prefer that kind of fan who seems to be vilified regularly on here the moron who sits behind me . Who seems to be the preferred type of charlton fan by many
Rich Cawley said he's heard RD will be investing substantially should we retain our Championship status. However, though I like RC, he hasn't been on the money much since the T.O.
Yes Mike, very probably the worst. The only others I can recall were 5-2 at home to the Blades in Pardew's last game, and 2-1 at home to Wycombe and 5-1 away to Spurs under Uncle Les.
The last two home games against Millwall were footballing atrocities. CP should have been sacked after the last one. He knows how much these games mean to us, yet he couldn't rouse a performance from the team for such a key fixture.
AQctually, V-a-v, I found it rather droll the way you sprung back into action after the Leeds game, following a few days of silence, which I'm sure were not connected to the 3-0 loss against Derby, in which Jose's tactics were found wanting.
So many performances were worse - one that springs to mind was Barnsley home where we lost 3-0 under Pardew and were outplayed from the off. Might be an interesting thread - the worst performance you've witnessed in the past 10 years. Bolton at home, losing 0-1 to a early Kevin Nolan goal is another. Bothroyd upfront doing **** all.
Walsall at home, Swindon at home and D&R away (plus the others under Pardew that have already been mentioned) were all worse than the Sheffield United performance IMO - those 3 clubs were all struggling near the foot of the L1 table when we played them and we made them look much better. I believe that Swindon game was their only away league win that season. Powell did a good job at Charlton and the club was better off when he left it than when he found it. Jose Riga is, so far, building on that good work. As IA has pointed out, 2 of our wins came against sides in disarray (Leeds and Forest), but you still have to get the result and he did. Well done to him.
Virtually every performance I can remember V Millwall has been dreadful even the 4 4 one the other year we We were very lucky. Reading are a decent yet inconsistent team 3 points V them and I will pat JR on the back another 3 on Tuesday and we are virtually safe. If we don't get 6 points then .....
I didn't think it was the worst Charlton performance and I remember the loss to Sheffield Utd under Pardew at the Valley being far worse. As for the choice of players and alternating them, this isn't based on any fact as with a squad you have to bring others in to cover for injuries whether you like it or not. Charlton's promotion to the Championship from League 1 with a record 101 points wasn't a myth though was it. Why insult someone who did his best for the Club and got them into the Championship in the first place on the basis of a loss in the Cup to a team which had beaten premiership opposition along the way. No one else seems to insult Jose Riga after his two 3-0 losses so far so I don't think your baiting is warranted. I expect Chris Powell to do well at another club has he is very much admired in football circles, surely you would want him to succeed elsewhere if not at Charlton in the same way that fans want Jose Riga to succeed at the club now he's in charge. As for leaving with his tail between his legs, he's actually left in high esteem and stuck to his principles in not being forced to field players who Jose Riga has dropped as we can see with the goal keeper situation.
Well you must always be miserable then even when the team was winning in CP's 2nd season in charge in League 1 playing an attractive brand of attacking football and last season particularly away. I just wonder how long Jose Riga will last before the worm turns.
Is that just because they're local rivals and how many times do we win against them whoever the manager in charge? I'd rather lose to them but win against the likes of QPR, Leicester, Forest etc.
The 101 points record breaking season was one of my most enjoyable during 40 odd years of goin down the valley and for that alone I will be eternally grateful to CP . Say what you want but he put a smile back on the faces of CAFC fans and you can't take away that achievement.
Utter tosh. How many Charlton fans would say the same thing? I think you are on a wind up now. Just because our record against Millwall is crap, are we expected to accept defeat, especially one so devoid of passion and attacking intent? Leicester and Forest, indeed.
That is of course your opinion, Mike, but it hardly compares to the campaigns of 97/98 and 99/00. They were truly remarkable seasons and they highlight just how good Curbs was as our manager. I agree, though, the L1 title win was fantastic and one I'll always savour. Chris Powell could well end up being a top manager, but it's not really our concern any longer.
