QPRNY - 10 goals, 123,456 attendance. Scrappy - 10 goals, 103,058 attendance. Shefford - 11 goals, 128,724 attendance. Good luck gents.
Can we guess which of the 3 of them remembered about this when predicting the attendance? http://www.uefa.org/disciplinary/news/newsid=2078987.html
With only 4 goals scored so far, and 25 mins to play in matches, that could possibly prove to be the clincher - if he was aware of this, no flies on our Scrappy!
Juventus score late, so up to 5 goals, with only added stoppage time to be played. Looked on BBC Sports for previous home Europa League matches for the cubs involved tonight and attendance figures are not included, but imagine that info is available from other sources. FT 6 goals in total. Basel scored three of them at home playing in an empty stadium - maybe we could try that?
It's pretty tricky to find the attendances! Seems like there was 350 at Basel though, no idea about the rest.
I would estimate that the official total attendance should be in the 75,000 - 80,000 range? Past UEFA Champions League average attendance figures:- FC Porto - 30,833 Lyon - 31,165 FC Basel - 18,770 (350 official tonight according to BBC) AZ Alkmaar - 15590 http://espnfc.com/stats/attendance/_/league/uefa.champions/uefa-champions-league?cc=5901 http://espnfc.com/team/stats/_/id/140/league/ned.1/az-alkmaar?cc=5901
If I was a betting man, I would put my money on you Scrappy - if you are indeed the winner, well done, you deserve it after last night! Even with a normal FC Basel crowd, total attendance would have been less than 100,000 I suspect.
Well........... Tonight's games resulted in six goals scored. This rendered the goals scored part of the competition futile. So we have to then move on to the attendances. They were as follows, AZ v Benfica 16,906 Basel v Valencia 0,350 FC Porto v Sevilla 31,122 Lyon v Juventus 37,084 This makes a total of ...... 85,462 So we have an eventual winner ................ Scrappy!!! Congratulations Scrappy and sincere commiserations to QPRNY and Sheffordqpr. If it's any consolation, as Kilburn posted above .... That even if Basel's game had not been played behind closed doors it probably wouldn't have made any difference. Basel's average attendance in this or any other Euro competition is about 18,770. This would have made Scrappy's estimation even closer ... (102,882) which would of resulted in him only being under his original total by 176. Unless their are any grievances as to the result or the format of the competition, I shall confirm Scrappy as the winner. Please speak up now or forever hold your peace. Thank you.
Well donre Scrappy, enjoy the game and thanks to Watford for providing the tickets and providing lotss of fun. Lets do this again with somethiong.
Congratulations Scrappy. Quite an appropriate moniker given the scrap that has been taking place for these tickets. Well done!
Thanks Shefford and NY, it was a big battle for the tickets. I had no idea about the Basel fan ban until it was posted on here, just got lucky with my attendance. Thanks to Nines and of course IwasanotherwatfordR for organising. I just hope we make it to Wembley now!
Congrats Scrappy, 999s and especially Watford for setting this all up I thought it was great fun....much better than any TV soap...so exciting Great Winner...great runners up...all we need to do now is to get a team to Wembley for Scrappy to support Come on u RRRS
That's it! We're all done and dusted. Thanks to everyone for taking part and making this an intriguing and exciting contest. Thanks to IwasanotherwatfordR for his very generous offer of the tickets and well done Scrappy and Phil for being the Victors. I'd also like to thank Shefford and QPRNY for being such good sports and embracing the competition in the spirit that it was intended. Well done everybody.
There's probably more on this to come from our forum at some point as well. Phil had match tickets already so he's reoffered the tickets to "deserving fans" (his word, not a sarcastic comment by me). Once all the details have been finalised you might find there's a nice "feel good" post goes up from the eventual recipients that risks turning it into an episode of Surprise Surprise.
