Ex-Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has indicated he would be prepared to accept a pay-as-you-play deal after failing to attract a single offer since being released from Old Trafford, The Sun reports.

The injury-plagued England international managed just 39 appearances in four years with United and was allowed to leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract earlier this month.

But with no clubs yet prepared to make a move for the 30-year-old, the former Bayern Munich player has accepted he might have to make his signature a more attractive proposition by agreeing to a contract that will only see him get paid if he is fit for action.

United spent around £17 million bringing Hargreaves to Old Trafford in 2007. He has been capped 42 times by England, but now looks unlikely to add to that tally.

I know the injuries are exactly is fault but for me should have done what that player did in; i think, Seria A. He was injured for the whole of one season so played the next seson without pay to thank the club for sticking by him, cant remember his name.

I'd have him back at United if he was going to be on a pay as you play deal. Nothing to lose. Albeit he lasts more than 5 minutes like he did the last time...

    It was Oguchi Onyewu.

In all fairness, from what I've heard he isn't that great and probably wouldn't have got much playing time anyway. I suppose this was more of a ploy to stop him getting sent back to MLS.

I've often wondered if Hargreaves playing style contributed to his injuries.

He always seemed to be over-stretching himself, putting in the maximum physical effort. It's a great feat of athleticism, but it's not a natural or relaxed way of playing football (hence his touch being so heavy). Maybe he just worked too hard, and it took its toll on his body.

if he wants a pay as you play deal, sign him up! We saw how great he was the first season he came here, and if he can replicate anywhere near that, then i'd have him any day of the week.

I would have loved him to stay under the pay as you play deal. To be honest he should have cleanly stated this to SAF & Gill and his wishes not to leave. We have all including the supports all stood by him so why hasn't he agreed to play the next season for free. Would shows his comit to our club. Feel really sorry for him through he could have been a great player for us if fit.

Question is, when would he have been fit? I think this is both us and Owen moving on. Maybe he needs a fresh start somewhere else which is a real shame because two of my favourite modern generation players, Hargreaves and Saha only left the club due to their injuries.

I think a player of his ability to play and marshal our mid-field is wearth keeping on a pay as you play deal.

How many of us will be totally gutted if he go's to another club and does really well and finally get's over this? I know I would be gutted when really his the type of player will have been missing since R.K left.
