The whole idea relies on a driver being willing to go slow. Both are good enough to think they can beat each other and friendly enough to make it work. It's a nice idea but kind of glosses over the mindset of a driver.

And if Vettel and RBR show up and win every race for the rest of the season, they'd have thrown away the title and look incredibly foolish.

No driver would accept these terms when they know there's maximum points on offer, nor would a team honestly believe their drivers would stick to such a plan. No F1 driver is going to gift huge chunks of points to their teammate knowing they're potentially their biggest title rival.

Nobody really knows what is happening behind closed doors mate. But I see your point, and it is more valid than mine. Then again Silver has got us thinking.

Ferrari boss plans FIA talks amid worries over Formula 1 spectacle
By Jonathan Noble Thursday, April 3rd 2014, 09:08 GMT

Luca di Montezemolo and Bernie Ecclestone plan to meet with Jean Todt during the Bahrain Grand Prix to discuss potential changes that could improve the spectacle of Formula 1.

AUTOSPORT has learned that Ferrari boss di Montezemolo is unimpressed with the new fuel-efficiency regulations in the sport, and flew to a meeting with Ecclestone in London on Wednesday to kick-start urgent discussions about what can be done to make things better.

Sources with knowledge of the situation suggest that both men are in agreement that the first two races of the season have not produced the kind of dramatic racing that some had believed would come with the new 1.6-litre turbo engines.

Both races have been won in dominant fashion by the early race leader, and there has not been as much overtaking and strategic variety as some had hoped.

One insider suggests that di Montezemolo has labelled the current spectacle as simply an 'economy run', with drivers no longer able to push to the maximum because of the way they are restricted on fuel flow and fuel capacity.

That stance backs up comments he made in Italy last month that F1's new complicated rules had taken away some of the racing excitement.

"I don't like his sort of taxi-cab driving," he was quoted as saying by Autosprint.

"What I don't like is this complexity in the interpretation of the race, both from the drivers' and the spectators' point of view."

Di Montezemolo and Ecclestone have asked Todt for talks in Bahrain this weekend to discuss the matter, and ponder what, if anything, can be done.

They are keen for some blue-sky thinking on the situation, although are well aware that the sport must not divert from the new hybrid technology path it has taken.

However, changes to the sporting regulations - whether it be through fuel-flow meters or new ways of using the engines - could be enough to improve matters.

    CONCERNS NOT NEW

Although some may view di Montezemolo's concerns about the state of F1 as a response to Ferrari's disappointing start to the campaign, insiders have revealed that the Maranello-based team has long questioned the impact the new regulations will have on the racing.

AUTOSPORT has learned that last season, Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali met with Ecclestone to discuss progress on the new regulations, and expressed worries that the spectacle could be damaged if drivers were more focused on fuel economy than driving.

The debate about the racing has come on the back of an initial focus on the sound of the new turbo engines, although Ecclestone said in Malaysia last weekend that the new power units did not sound as bad in real life as he had been expecting.

Not all teams are so concerned about the situation, though.

McLaren Group CEO Ron Dennis said at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix that he felts the rules needed a couple of races to bed down.

"I think we should give it a little bit more time to settle down before we are too critical of it," he said.

"I think there are always going to be people who have negative observations. That is inevitable."

Maybe FIA should give mercedes a 10 place grid penalty for being totally prepared and ready for 2014... What do you think.

It's much easier to manage if you have a #1 & #2, rather than two #1 drivers.

It would be really great if there was some kind of Formula One Teams Association to tackle and address these concerns...

Just had a quick look and it seems that Bahrain is more or less one of the worst tracks on the calender for fuel consumption.

So early in the season when the management systems are still being worked on means that this weekend could see the 'worst' effects of fuel saving this year.

Ricciardo is going to need a lighter foot on Sunday <ok>

Then theres the massive braking zone, thats really going to test the brake by wire systems, big time to be made there.. and energy recovery.

Now Perez.... I say give Mercedes a 10 place grid penalty...They had no right getting their car ready and in top shape for 2014. Perez, wasnt last year boring too? If I were you I would be asking my team to please try to make the car last for more than a lap. I mean, if I were you I might feel the same way if my team mate was fighting at the top and I cant complete a single lap. The name is development... do like Red Bull... develop the car and make the races interesting. Or maybe take two wheels off the mercedes if that would help. Oh by the way, Mercedes did their homework and come prepared.. if they can stay at the top is anyone's guess...Red Bull couldnt complete a couple laps in testing , now they are fighting close to the top..... thats what you call development..or not!

Sergio Perez labels 2014 Formula 1 spectacle 'boring'
By Jonathan Noble Thursday, April 3rd 2014, 10:34 GMT

Sergio Perez has labelled the 2014 Formula 1 spectacle as 'boring', citing a lack of overtaking and drivers being unable to push to the maximum.

Ahead of talks between Ferrari, Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA at the Bahrain Grand Prix to discuss concerns about the current spectacle, Perez has backed those questioning the new rules.

Having finished the first race in Australia and watched Malaysia from the sidelines after failing to make the start, Perez has been able to assess F1 2014 from both inside and outside the cockpit.

"Malaysia for me was quite a boring one," he said. "It was quite a boring race, with Mercedes dominating and nothing happening in the midfield.

"Malaysia, normally, if it doesn't rain, there is a lot of degradation with tyres, and issues with cooling, so it is difficult to follow the cars.

"But here [Bahrain] hopefully we can see a good race. Generally we have good racing here, and people are learning more about the cars. Hopefully for the fans and the good of F1, we can have a good show here."

DOWNFORCE A BIG FACTOR IN PROBLEM

Perez thinks it is wrong to single out the new fuel-efficient engines as a cause of the lack of action this year, for he thinks the ultimate cause is a dramatic reduction in downforce for 2014.

That has led to an increase in tyre degradation, which drivers are having to manage by driving under the limit of full car performance.

"Although Pirelli is bringing really, really hard compounds, the degradation is not really improving because you are sliding and you are degrading as much as if it was a soft compound," explained the Force India driver. "So to follow a car is difficult.

"With the lack of downforce it is difficult, so you have to be on a different strategy to have a good move."

Although trickier cars do make mistakes more likely, Perez thinks that being able to seize on such moments is harder because cars cannot follow each other so closely.

"Obviously it is easier to do a mistake, but the problem is that if you degrade the tyres by sliding more and following a car, you lose a lot of downforce.

"So that makes things harder for us to attack someone who is on a similar pace to you."

When Lewis got out of that car he was totally drenched... I am sure he must have lost a few pounds well... So how can you expect to run those races without having liquids? Anyway I think the FIA should really look into that comment by Sutil. and it should be compulsory for all drivers to have liquids at their disposal during the race. NB: Liquids...Not Alcohol..lol
