From what I've read from multiple sources it sounds like it's $5 million over two years, ergo $2.5 million a year.

Don't worry about it, it's more about the structure than anything else. It's basically a one year $10m contract (which is incredible value) with the option to keep him on for another year at $22m. Odds are that wouldn't happen - if he has a great year as expected, then rather than exercise that option Patriots would likely work out a long term deal, get him for another 4 years, and not have to pay that much just for one season. If that can't happen, they can let him go at the end of this year for nothing. That extra $22m likely won't be spent.

So having lost Peppers to the Packers, the Bears have signed Jarret Allen on a $32million 4yr deal.

Their fans are now claiming that they will win the SB next season all of a sudden! But replacing one good pass rusher with another will not plug the many holes in their Defence.

I'm surprised Allen ended up at the Bears, they have about as much chance of winning the Superbowl as the Vikings next year (ie no chance). Thought he would end up at a contender. Still I'm glad he didn't end up at the Packers or the Seahawks, so that is a bonus.

Plus he pretty much guarentees that Peterson will have about 500 yards in each game against the Bears next year.

    Guide for offseason success;

Step one: Do not address any positions of need in FA
    Step two: Sign Mark Sanchez
    Step three: Release best receiver

The DJax move seemed unavoidable but overall not massively encouraging for the short term.

They claim it's because he is involved with a gang. At least now some team will pick him up a little cheaper. Also heard they took a $7m cap hit which is crazy.

I'd be amazed if Patriots signed DJax. I think learning from the last time they had a suspected gang member might rule the move out.

Thing is now all the "he may be in a gang"stuff has happened. Teams can now get a far better deal then they would have. To a few teams he will be damaged goods.

I don't think DJax is particularly dangerous in of himself, just a tool who keeps the wrong company. The release wasn't specifically about him being gang-affiliated but more that the negative influences around him wielded too much power over him and he missed a lot of team meetings and whatnot, and he had a few run-ins with Kelly.

Obviously when you keep that kind of company you could find yourself in any number of ****ed up situations but that goes for a significant number of NFL players, there have been countless incidents of that kind over the years.

You have to assume the Pats will be one of the more cautious of the teams out there though. My guess is he prices himself out of interest from all the contenders and ends up getting big bucks from one of the stragglers, anyway.

Signed the deal last night, 3 years 24m 16m guaranteed. A lot of guaranteed but it could end up being decent value.

    What's up guys.

First ever post on this NFL forum. I'm a regular poster on the ja606 NFL boards, but they are a bit quiet at this time of year, I feel like I'm taking to myself.

I'm pretty impressed with the amount of football chat on this site for this time of year, good to see.

    Cheers bud

    The Eagles are my team.

I picked them when the NFL first came on the telly here in the 80s, for no better reason than that they wore the same colours as my soccer team. But I got really hooked on them about 10 years ago when I was based in Philly.

    How about you?
Is there a good mix of teams represented on here?
    Any other Eagles fans?
