I just don't understand his logic. He's saying West Ham are a team on the up cause they've overspent on a new stadium they won't be able to afford on Championship revenues and they've just been relegated. Signing old players on high wages and long contracts was what ****ed them up in the first place, yet they persist with Ab. Faye and Nolan.

He is a West Ham fan who seems to be quite happy for them to spend money that they haven't got in gambling on them getting straight back into the Premiership.

If Fat Sam does not get them up next season they could find themselves in the ****.

I just read that article half an hour ago.

    Ridiculous isn't it? Hilarious really.

West Ham all about potential? Really? haha classic. With Sullivan and Gold in charge? Moving to that new stadium but having to reduce the capacity from 60,000 because they don't have enough fans?

Sorry, but it's never going to happen.

He's also completely wrong about Newcastle being invisible outside of the north east. The club is massive in Asia and Africa, and well supported in the USA. Of course, nowhere near the levels of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, but certainly in the top bracket of English clubs.

But then, you'd expect that kind of opinion from a London-centric, pig ignorant 'English' sports journalist.

Exactly! Surely I'm not the only person who's worn a Newcastle top on holiday and had people come up to me to talk about Alan Shearer? He uses the argument that we're not big just because we've got a big stadium then uses the same argument to "justify" his claim that WHU are bigger than us

Disagree with being invisible outside the NE. this forum goes to show alone how many supporters we have not residing in the north east let alone England or even the UK. Although a completely pointless article there is a little truth in the matter. We may be at operating capacity. Which surely is a good thing given the new fair play rules that will come in season after next. We and Arsenal stand very well and wouldn't be surprised if we had a little flirt with a cup or an outsiders odds with the league like years gone by. The future is bright at Newcastle.

When we were relegated a couple of years ago the press made a huge issue regarding the possibility of us going bust and "doing a Leeds"

If we had given a massive contract to a 29 year old and committed ourselves to paying him £55k per week for 5 years, they would have publicly slaughtered us. Instead, this muppet applauds them for their ambition. I cannot believe that people like him get paid for this ****

Newcastle were huge in the North East, granted, but invisible beyond

watched the u15 tournament in Singapore this morning and was a load of fans in toon tops also sure the Singapore toon supporters club is massive not bad for an invisible team.mention west ham over there and they think of dot cotton

    ****ing gobshite.

Not being from England I couldnt really pass any comment on the claims of southern bias but this makes it clear for all to see.

The amount of assumptions and baseless opinion in the article is a disgrace. NUFC only recently fell out of the worlds top 20 earning clubs and that sort of revenue cant just be as a result of the local fanbase.

He also fails to mention some memorable nights that NUFC stamped their mark into the CL.

i bet he wouldnt say the same about Tottenham despite them being CL one hit wonders and only overtaking us in the earnings table in our c,ship season.

Something has motivated him to write the article, he has a chip on his shoulder about something. He never did mention the outcome of the debate did he, perhaps he got a caning despite using "cold, hard logic".<dog>

    What a tit

i was recently in bali on my honeymoon and i was out in some tiny little village and i was tryignt ocommunicate with one of the guides who could barely speak english and he asked me who i supported when i said newcastle he proceeded to reel off a list of players and former players before laughing at me as 'his' team had taken andy carroll off us! the guy surely couldn't afford to have his own TV yet he knew about newcastle. it was the same most places we visted. they could barley speak a word of usable english until football was inevitably mentioned. the entire island supports either Man utd or liverpool but they all knew all about newcastle.

As I said just a few days ago:

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/56406-Newcastle-a-big-club

If we aren't recognised outside of the NE how are we attracting the players we are????

Not a dig at Sunderland, but one came on here asking how we got Cabaye to sign

Are time in Europe put us on the footballing map.

This man is talking ****e, we are a big club in support and stadium which obviously generates a large amount of revenue (as well as robbing the bindippers)

A Geordie stole his lass, that has to be it.

Seriously though, he needs to leave London and travel abroad where he'll find the toon still get significant coverage, including during the Championship season -- I should know, I watched them on Canadian tv almost weekly.

No substance in that article whatsoever. Compared us to the hierarchy in Germany saying Hamburg are in fact bigger than Schalke because Schalke haven't had much European glory? Besides it's a stupid debate anyways, you can't measure a club's size based purely on what they've won.

The whole Nolan to West Ham mention was ridiculous also, somehow they are a team on the up because they will be soon moving into an Olympic stadium and have spent 4 million on a solid PL player on a contract of 55k a week even though they've just been relegated with a wage bill which accounts for 90% of their turnover?

I think our worst days are behind us, I know many on here dislike Ashley, but if it means putting us on a more solid financial footing for when these new uefa rules come in then I can see the logic behind reducing wage bills even if it does mean sacrificing some of our top players...
