Ha! Unless you are very poor you have to pay something towards all medical tests here (as well as visits to the doctor - £25 a time) and we still have to wait. We also have a system of state accident insurance which is paid through various taxes, like car tax. This means that there is no accident liability and it is not possible to sue for most accidents. We also have to pay a contribution to treatment with this, too. To get to the point, mistakes still occur. I had a nasty accident nearly seven years ago and the fracture in my ankle has only just been diagnosed. I don't see the specialist till next month to find out what treatment I will get, if any.
As many of you know, I'm epileptic. The last time I mentioned to the consultant's registrar that it had been sometime since I'd had my tablet levels checked, the reply was "the test has be done in the UK, and by the time it comes back the results are worthless". If that's the case, I'd like to know why I had tests done every few months for about 15 years after moving here. It also brings about the question of how any medication levels on the island are correct. Unless you are on income support, routine visits to the doctor are £38 per time (certain examinations/tests are extra) and you have to pay £2 if you want the doctor to issue a repeat prescription without an appointment which you can only get a months supply of but you don't have to pay for the medication. However, one of my medicines is hospital prescription only. Those prescriptions are free, and I can get 3 months supply at a time.
Failed to have my blood test again this week, reinforcing the phobia, managed MRI last week though but definitely without Cannula I made it very clear there was no way they'd stick me!!!
Good morning all from a dry Jersey. WARNING: Request for sponsorship. A colleague of mine is taking part in the London Marathon in 10 days and is running for a charity called Whizz-Kidz which raises funds to provide disabled children with mobility equipment and ongoing support. If anyone moans that this will open the way for everyone to enter requests for people who aren't on this board or family members to be sponsored for charity events, firstly it is purely your choice if you sponsor him and secondly, I delayed putting a request here until after I had received the OK from BHD and H as moderators. Work is matching all donations he receives. If you are a UK taxpayer and donate, don't forget the Gift Aid option. The link is: http://www.justgiving.com/james-sutcliffe3

Evening all Back from the non- E type Cotswold trip A shame about the car but we've found a more reliable supplier through the hotel and will do it again in the future. If you ever want an expensive but excellent stay in that part of the world I thoroughly recommend the Lords of the Manor at Upper Slaughter. It's a lovely old manor house with a Michelin starred restaurant attached. Great food, excellent service and a very comfortable room...not cheap though!
Blooming heck Theo. Lords of the Manor was close to my old stamping ground, and cheap was not a word that they knew there. The food looked just the sort of thing that I would love to try and do have out here sometimes, but not at their prices. I walked along the seafront at Cannes a few years ago and looked at the menus. A starter of Parma ham and melon kicked off at €35 and a main course started at €65.The cheapest bottle of wine on the list was €115. I didn't partake!
I know where you're coming from Frenchie. When I was a kid a trip to Lyons Corner House was an undreamed of luxury. Until I met Mrs H I would never have dreamed of paying so much for a meal. This was our Xmas present to each other because we've reached the stage where amazing experiences seem to deliver more than more things to own. Foie gras, local wild pigeon, an extraordinary Yorkshire rhubarb dessert...champagne, an unusual Italian red and a sweet Rivesaultes...and fantastic service in a lovely setting,,,it did feel worth it. Couldn't afford it too often though!
Did anyone see the programme, http://www.npr.org/2011/06/10/137012011/two-guys-on-a-road-trip-racking-up-comic-mileage I think they went to the place you mention Theo...
I didn't see all of it, Mex, only one or two episodes so I didn't see Lords of the Manor but it's probably exactly the kind of place they'd have used. I do like Rob Brydon and rarely missed 'Would I lie to you?'.
I am not 100% sure but the place seemed familiar. I used to work in a Michelin Star restaurant, Auberge de Lac, expensive food but some incredible stuff served up...
