Britt Assambalonga has now scored 21 goals in his last 31 games for Peterborough ... now I know it's League 1, but nevertheless this is a young kid with a definite something when it comes to putting the ball in the onion bag ... could be just the type Nige likes ...

Exactly the type of player we should be getting in...as opposed to Maiga & Keane.
Not ready for the Prem yet, but certainly knows where the net is. Up fron with Austin would be nice <ok>

He fits the Nigel Pearson bill.

But I think we should buy him, then loan him out to a Championship side, like Queenie said...he's not ready for the PL yet...few make that step up and those that do have even better records.

I don't assume they'll ignore you, or that Huddlestone would have stayed at Spurs if we hadn't gone for him. I'm saying that if two clubs are competing for players the different managers will give them an edge in signing different kinds of player.

For example, if you got promoted with us last summer and we both went after Huddlestone and Knockaert (just pretend he was still in France) and offered them the exact same wages etc. I'd expect Huddlestone as an older player who's been in the PL to pick us over you because as newly promoted clubs we're both likely to be struggling, but Bruce has shown in the past he can keep a club up so I'd be more confident of not dropping down a division the following year and losing more PL time at the peak of my career. Knockaert on the other hand I'd still expect to join you, because NP has the record of taking the younger players and developing them into the first team. As a relatively unknown player at that age I'm not too worried about dropping down to the Championship because I've got time to come back, and I know NP will give me the chance to impress in the PL before that where maybe Bruce would rather go with a more experienced player and hardly use me.

    Okay, that's your opinion.

Personally think wages and the training ground facilities take higher priority than what a manager may or may not have done with a completely different set of players.

I'll be honest, I think he's a terrible manager especially before Hull, its hard to say he hasn't done well there.

I've certainly never really thought of him actually being a draw for players.

Yes they will, but I specifically said in the earlier post

I'm not saying we're going to get ridiculously good players because of him, but he's proven to do a certain job at this level and players will look at that kind of thing.

Personally I think he's very good in the situation where he brings a club up and has to work within a relatively tight budget, like he's done with us, and Wigan, and did with Birmingham to a point. I don't think much to his track record when he has a bigger budget, I mean he didn't really take Sunderland much further even when he started spending big. It was something like £50M they spent in the summer the last time we were PL, and it moved them about 4 points further away from us in our second season compared to our first, and we went backwards massively that season.

Well yes, maybe if that were the case.

Juan Mata didn't go to United because of David Moyes for example.

But as things are never the same and because there are much higher priorities in a footballer's mind it's not worth arguing over.

I don't think that the difference between a transfer taking place and not taking place is a manager's previous job because it means little to nothing to incoming players (although that obviously changes if your name is Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola or someone of that stature).

i think that we are also ignoring the fact that Holloway had had a good run in the epl with Blackpool.
A player will make his own mind up where he wants to go, it might not even be his choice it might be his wife's, who knows what it is that makes someone make a decision i have taken jobs for a variety of reasons and turned stuff down.
i think that top and the board will have some input on transfers, I dont think we well see a massive influx of players, just a consolidation i think like last season he will show loyalty to those that have performed for him this year. After all this is a team he has assembled and believed was good enough to keep him his job and get us promoted.
