haha, only in the eyes of bitter kopites mate. Don't agree on the Martinez one though, as there was cover along side him (Lahm I think) so not a definite goalscoring opportunity for me that.
If you watch the replay again Tobes, I'm sure you might reconsider. Lahm would of had to make up about 4 or 5 yards on Hernandez. Lahm is an outstanding player, but if there was one achillies heel in his game when he played as a right back it was pace, he has never been the quickest, hence why they've moved him into midfield. I personally don't think he'd of got anywhere near Hernandez
IMO, the cover was there and it was fifty yards from goal so wasn't a red. The referee can only give a red if its a clear goal scoring opportunity, something that you are currently debating so therefore isn't clear. Valencia and Schweinsteiger both deserved to go for a second yellow. Valencia's first booking was perhaps harsh though. Vidic got a player booked by rolling around on the floor holding his face despite clearly (via video replay) not being touched. Welbeck's foot was high so I think it was a freekick. Being in possession is irrelevant. If it had been the other way around then you guys would have wanted a freekick too. I think its one of those that is frustrating but you have to accept it. It wasn't a disallowed goal either BTW, the ref blew his whistle before Danny even considered shooting.
This is debatable of course, we could go on all day, but I think it was chest high and the defender was stooping. No free kick for me, but then referees interpret the game different to each other so there is no consistency. I would say of the major talking points that the goal should have stood, Martinez was lucky not to go, Valencia was lucky not to go and Schweinsteiger was unlucky to go. What can you do though, eh?
I didnt see anyone else of note had made one so I thought I had better get one up for the utterly pointless game. If you had just made one matt then I wouldnt have made one would I. Only yourself to blame!
Because hes making it up. Come on Luv, you and Gerraez know which of your fellow fans to ignore completely due to their extreme views.
Can't disagree with any of that. Well done by the way fellas. Thought you started off very well but struggled to come up with any ideas when Bayern got into their passing rhythm. Maybe if Pep allowed them to shoot more often they'd have scored!
I agree, we started well and then they had a period of dominance in the first half amounting to about half an hour. After that it was open and could have gone either way.
I thought it was pretty end to end to begin with, but they kept the ball brilliantly and you didn't after a bit imo, they just couldn't break you down enough. I don't know what the **** Welbeck was doing trying to chip one of the best keepers in the world when about 3 foot away either.
How many red cards have we seen for challenges like that where there wasn't even contact. Dives in off the floor, just going into the challenge like that is a possible red, never mind making contact. I'll say in Valencia's defence he didn't as you say fly in with a straight leg. Doesn't matter though, when you go in like that you risk getting sent off. I guess it's open to interpretation and that's the problem, consistency.
When the ball is near head height and one player is going to head it and the other competes a header with a boot it will and should ALWAYS be a free kick. If the defender was 2 paces away or had to stoop low then that's different. just cos Welbeck didn't kick him in the face this time, if you allow that there will be many a kick in the face
At the end of the day, for all their passing a poor, out of confidence United should have won 2-1 or even 3-1. before the game a draw would have been great but after the game and when the dust has settled I am disappointed we didnt win. This Bayern are nothing compared to Barcelona at their best either. Lack the brilliance.
You played well, I didn't think Bayern were all that great last night in the final 3rd though, they were too slow getting forward and tried to pass through you in the Barca style. problem now is you need to score in Germany so I don't see them over committing too much, at least it doesn't matter if they score one first over there as you need to score either way.
Everyone says we need to score 2 but we need to score just 1 if we were to shut them out ( easier to do at Bayern ). Pace seems to be their weakness. We have quite a bit of pace and we didnt play it all last night. Welbeck was our outlet and he should have bagged a brace.
I disagree there, this Bayern side would wipe the floor with any Barca side of the past 5 years. Look what they did to them last season, now I know Barca had lost it abit then, but 7-0 was unbelievable. Barca even under Pep were fortunate to get through the semi finals that led them to winning it, a disgraceful performance by the referee at Stamford Bridge, and then a joke of a red card against Real Madrid. Barca definitely had the better star player in Messi, but apart from him this Bayern side are a much better team
I agree. Bayern is a strong and consistent team. Dare I say it, a team we should use as a benchmark for us. They beat Barcelona 7-0 last season and this was the humiliation of Barca, if truth be told, by a superior team. Having said, we could (should) have won yesterday. It shows that even such a **** team can rouse itself given the desire, the passion and the right tactics. The fans were just incredible last night and a real credit to fandom. However, we should not fool ourselves. It does NOT mean we have turned the corner. We are a big team in the middle of a huge depression. The City bankers call it a dead cat bounce (a dead cat will bounce off the floor if dropped from a huge height ) . The team we most resemble at the moment is Spurs. One match brillant and the next ****. What we need is a top top player, a leader. Real has Ronaldo, Barcelona Messi, Bayern Schweinsteiger, Chelsea Hazard, Scousers the cheating racist.. etc United will go to Bayern as very real underdogs. If there are any expectations of a win, they would be stuffed as with our ****ty players, as soon as they feel some pressure they are gone.
Well, the whole of Europe disagrees with you. L'equipe, Gazzetta. But you are right, everyone else is wrong. Yep, that'll be it. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/02/manchester-united-handball-arjen-robben Btw: is it Moyes or Moyes out this afternoon?

the bayern side would have got pasted by the best barcelona side of recent time. Utterly destroyed. bayern lack a Messi
