Five years ago today we went into administration. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...ref=rss&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter (Sidenote - 3 years to the day since Saints 3-2 MK Dons) DTLW
Incredible journalism from the Echo. Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward wouldn't have got jobs as teaboys at Echo towers.
You could say he earnt it. Just as I put the blame for relegation on Crouch's attempt to score instead of taking the ball into the corner, I picture his two goals as a crucial point in our promotion.
He earn't staying for a while. But not two years of just training a couple days a week. I thank him for his two goals, but hopefully he will be gone soon.
That may be why Nigel wasn't involved so much in subsequent signings...not that there weren't more blooopers. Remember that we were a big club to Nigel...he was probably still thinking small time at that point.
His agent was "Johnno slick" in the contract talks. Well, we were in league one! To be fair to Forte, apart from the MK Dons performance, he was cheap and filled a gap in the squad.
He can still put Southampton in his career resume....that will impress the grandkids (after all we will have won the CL several times by then ).
Oh and here is that famous game against Milton Keynes:
We must remember that the payout in prize money isn't like a lovely surprise jackpot...any of our plans will have factored in the prize money, although actual value wouldn't be known.
Enjoyed that DTLW. One of the game highlights that I haven't gone back to on an infrequent basis, so I haven't seen that in more than once since it happened.
"...and somehow, he's beaten Kelvin Davis at his near post..." Dear old SKD, I wonder if we'll ever have an opportunity to hear those immortal words again? Apart from that, great memories of a wonderful time.
Considering how good Kelvin was for several years, particularly our promotion push, his near post antics were always quite baffling. Hope he stays on as a coach or something though, he's one of my favourite players from the past few years.
