http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...he-was-offered-the-Manchester-United-job.html That means he was, that's why Fergie went over to New York last year to have a meeting with him.
Complete non-story imo. You're trying to persuade the hottest available manager to take over as manager at the club, why the hell would it be Fergie talking to Guardiola and not David Gill??????? And why wouldn't the no nonsense Glaswegian just ask him outright. Makes little if any sense. They did exactly what Pep says in that article - met up for a nice meal as it coincided with events and that's about it.
No, he went there for the taxis, he got sick of missing buses in Manchester
Agree. Saffa sounded him out about the job but did not offer it to him. Like Jose. If you are looking for the right man for the second biggest job in an industry, surely you should at least sound out more than one candidate. Or you might end up with a c*** like Moy.... er hold on
Pep said he didn't know if he was offered the job because he couldn't understand Fergie when he spoke quickly. It was a joke. if Pep was offered the job he would know 100% he was offered the job. Non story. As for Jose, United wanted a long term plan, Pep spent his career at Barca and did an excellent job putting Jose in his place, not someone like Jose who wants 300m to spend and will be gone in 2-3 seasons.
No no no.... United wanted a longer term manager who brought stability and was able to work on a budget. We didnt want a 3 year mana who would spend 100million a season.... So obviously we have already given Moyes 65million and are planning on giving him another 200million this summer so he can start rebuilding the very unstable squad hes turned it into. He will never make 3 years either.... We should have just signed Jose/Pep and won ourselves another title, spent less than Moyes will spend and not be a laughing stock!
Do you honestly think Jose would win the league with that lot? I doubt it. He couldn't win La Liga with Real and Ronaldo last year Vs a managerless Barca, he's not winning the PL with a very decent squad at Chelsea either. Not to say he won't win it this season as that is the 2nd most likely outcome if City fail, just saying that with arguably a very inferior squad Fergie was walking it last year, do i think Jose would have walked it with the same squad last season, I doubt it, United's success has been based on attacking football not "defensive hoof ball park the bus and give it to the talented guy" football
jose plays to his sides strengths. No striker at chelsea means...... less attacking threat. Makes sense to be solid at the back doesnt it At Madrid he was a very attacking manager. the team was set up to attack and attack it did. You have to factor in who he would have signed ( not fellaini ) and the confidence he brings. Jose is the best manager in the league, by a mile. With the holders he would have walked the league.
When Jose played good teams he was anything but open attacking, see Barca games, he tried the same ****ing thing he did v City at the Etihad, you do not employ those tactics with a squad like that. Look at the two performances of Real v United in the CL. Defensive but poor because they are not a defensive team, ponderously going forward, they were atrocious and were saved by the ref. Jose is the most successful manager in the league. Most of which was from a position of great advantage over most of the rest of each league he's managed in. Chelsea Porto Inter Real Chelsea. Already the chavs have another £100m+ of players lined up for the summer. by the end of the summer 2014 in just a little over 12 months Jose will have spent £200m on players, 12 months. Yeah, brilliant. I think even Moyes would have won a title if he could have spent that kind of cash at Everton. Yes Chelsea will sell players to balance it somewhat but all the money for those players they are selling was unearned investment yes the rules allowed it but it makes it no less an advantage over clubs who didn't have wealthy benefactors. As for walking the league, no he wouldn't have. Look at how Chelsea are set up, United's squad just don't have the attributes to play that football, just like Sherwood getting his players to try play a pressing game v us at Anfield, he hadn't the squad to do that and that's what happens when you have a squad of players not at all suited to the tactics employed. Jose also discarded Mata ffs.
I have also steadfastly refused to say if I was offered the United job before Guardiola, Moyes and Mourinho. Now that my secret's out (by your powers of deduction and faultless logic) I guess I can reveal my reasons for saying no... I didn't want to take over from the great SAF immediately. I thought it was best that another manager or two battle along trying to live up to Fergie's successes, and then I'd swoop in for the rescue in a few years time. It's kind of like the U.S. elections (where is our american friend btw?), you need to carefully decide when the best time is to run for president (based on the economy, who you're up against, and who the rival candidates are).

Great posts Sisu. I don't agree with your thoughts on Mourhino but you've made some really good arguments and there is a lot there which is valid Btw I agree about the Guardiola non-story. Ofcourse he would have fcking known about it.
