Best Driver: Hamilton was flawless Worst Driver: Bianchi blotted his copybook somewhat Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Kvyat, although Ericsson didn't disgrace himself either Best Team: Can't look beyond a Mercedes 1-2 Worst Team: Sauber failed to get either car to the finish. Best Overtake: I liked the extended Alonso-Hulk move in T1&2 Funniest-moment: "Bottas is faster than you" Most Surprising Result: Grosjean finishing? Least Surprising Result: Mercedes wininng comfortably Special Mention to: - Race Rating: 4/10 Best Commentator/Presenter: Cumberbatch?

People were saying that Mercedes tyre overheating gremlins were back...so I would say the most surprising result was that Lewis Hamilton was able to stay out longer on the first stint than even the Red Bulls who were said to be much more kind on tyres. In fact when he was called he was still doing very competitive laps and could have stayed out a couple more without losing out too much. And earlier on Rosberg who is usually good on tyres was struggling with training. They also said he would drink up fuel and would have a problem with that...in fact he was more conservative than everyone except for the Williams guys. So that was also unexpected.
Best Driver: Hamilton Worst Driver: Sutil Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Best Team: Mercedes Worst Team: Sauber Best Overtake: Alonso and Hulk, twice Funniest-moment: "Felipe, Valtteri is faster than you", can you confirm you understand this message... Most Surprising Result: Williams not actually that fast, not that surprising but Least Surprising Result: Merc Special Mention to: Vettel, Alonso, Hulk, Race Rating: 5/10 Best Commentator/Presenter: Edwards
Best Driver: Hamilton - What else could he do? Worst Driver: Raikkonen - Out qualified by Alonso in a broken car by a second, took out Magnussen and finished a lap behind. Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Magnussen, I would say Kvyat but he broke Alonso's car and was outclassed by Vergne Best Team: Merc Worst Team: Sauber Best Overtake: Alonso on Hulk (I think) in the opening laps Funniest-moment: Vettel messing up qualifying made me laugh Most Surprising Result: Mclaren's were so slow! Least Surprising Result: Mercedes won Special Mention to: Alonso, Vettel, Hulk for all out performing their cars Race Rating: 4/10
Best Driver: Hulkenberg - always seems to wind up in decent positions these days, drove another excellent race. Worst Driver: Bianchi - ended his own race and someone else's with some really ****e driving Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Kvyat Best Team: Mercedes Worst Team: Williams - the car wasn't bad but the stuff coming from the pit wall was appalling. If they were going to release Bottas they should've done it in the first stint rather than waiting until the last couple of laps when there was little to play for and has race had long since been compromised. At no point did they allow their drivers to race, for the most part they were telling Bottas he wasn't allowed to attack, and then they were telling Massa not to defend. On top of that their wording was crass and insulting, I don't blame Massa for ignoring it, he must've thought they were taking the piss. Best Overtake: Ricciardo on Alonso. Most Surprising Result: Massa ignoring team orders Least Surprising Result: Mercedes dominating Special Mention to: Hamilton - not sure if that was his first grand slam or not (did Hulk lead a lap?), but it was a dominant performance. Much faster and more fuel efficient than his team mate. Race Rating: 2/10 - It was a shocker, I don't mind one team/driver dominating when there's action further back, but the field was strung out pretty early on. The only real battle seemed to be Grosjean and Raikkonen for 11th place. Ricciardo vs. Alonso was shaping up nicely before Dan's race unravelled.

Best Driver: Hamilton, just about. Was a few other top drives today (and this weekend) Worst Driver: Sutil Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Kvyat Best Team: Mercedes Worst Team: Sauber- with Williams putting in a strong effort! Best Overtake: None stand out so Rosberg pushing through Vettels squeeze Funniest-moment: Presenters attempts at stirring Most Surprising Result: Mercedes tyre life Least Surprising Result: (I actually wasn't expecting a Merc win so) Vettel being back and Hulk being where he shouldn't. Special Mention to: Vettel, Kvyat, Hulk, Rosberg and Ricciardo Race Rating: 5.5/10 - would probably call it a 4-5 race but was nice to see Hamilton win again (bias). Hopefully not so easy to many more times. Best Commentator/Presenter: BBC annoyed me today, overdoing when ever Ricciardo challenged Vettel and trying to make something happen between Ros and Ham. Cucumber-batch on the podium interview was refreshingly good.
Best Driver: Hulk Worst Driver: Bianchi Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Kvyat Best Team: Mercedes Worst Team: Sauber Best Overtake: None Funniest-moment: "Bottas is faster than you" Most Surprising Result: Nothing Least Surprising Result: Default 13. (If I heard right), McLaren being **** Special Mention to: - Ricciardo, Lewis, Alonso, Button Race Rating: 4/10 Best Commentator/Presenter:
Woah woah woah... Hang on... that's clearly not the case! Check out the relative speeds and sector times in the corners... The Red Ball Chassis, as always, is basically immense. The Renault engine is just detracting from the true potential of that car. It has the best downforce and balance. I still think he did a really good job, but let's not give this guy the excuse of a poor car. Fernando can complain, Seb can't.
Actually it was already proven by Toto Wolff that the Red Bull has the second best aero package compared to Mercedes by highlighting that both Mercedes were on top in the high speed corners and had the straight line as a bonus which was why the gap wasn't bigger because they couldn't use the engine advantage. When Vettel and Lewis were compared in a pole lap video on the BBC Vettel just did a better job than Lewis in the twisty bits in general until the engine came more into play for the final part of sector 3.
David Coulthard, and other commentators, have said otherwise, and it was clearly obvious that red bull have better downforce and balance on the lap comparisons in the wet The only bit Hamilton gained on was the straights.
Fair enough but I'll stick to the facts that Sector 2 is all high-medium speed aero and as T.Wolff points out that both Nico and Lewis topped. But traction is another strong Red Bull suit which will help them in the wet and a trait which Vettel is hard to beat at. 1 44 Lewis Hamilton 41.280 2 6 Nico Rosberg 41.483 3 1 Sebastian Vettel 41.552 4 3 Daniel Ricciardo 41.890
Just so everybody understands that it isn't entirely impossible to see why I considered Vettel doing a better job in qualifying than Lewis and was my driver of the weekend over Hamilton's strong performance. If you can watch it start at 49:01 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03znc7h/Formula_1_2014_The_Malaysian_Grand_Prix/ Hamilton with hardly any corrections bar the wheel spin from engine power in sector 2 which is where aero rules the Mercedes is very much on rails even in the wet, compared with Seb fighting the wheel at various times. Vettel just started the beginning of sector 3 much better than Lewis to get ahead by a cars length even with traffic slightly costing him as well. To be 0.055 behind the fastest Mercedes driver of the weekend when you can see the Mercedes carrying more down force and even more engine power with no traffic should be well applauded rather than ignored as a great performance by Vettel to be that close. So that's why I put Vettel slightly ahead of Hamilton, not just because I'm just a fan of Vettel.
Hamiltons lap was a banker, Vettels was all out. Vettels lap was more skillful but only as Hamilton never made a hot lap They're probably the top 2 qualifiers on the grid so always pulling amazing laps
Exactly, no doubt Lewis would of probably bought up another 0.4 or more if he could put in 1 decent lap and Seb another 0.2 maximum.
Best Driver: The Incredible Bulk(enburg) drags whatever midfield car he's been offered into Q3 so regularly you'd think he was in a good car. Worst Driver: Bianchi for crashing and Massa for only going quickly when told to cede a place to his team-mate. Best Rookie (Magnussen, Kvyat, Ericsson): Kvyat Best Team: Mercedes Worst Team: Marussia Best Overtake: erm Funniest-moment: is it box, box, box, or box box box box? Most Surprising Result: SV staying with the mercs Least Surprising Result: The Hamelots having a **** frenzy causing them to forget what they said when Vettel was winning in a car that was only a second a lap faster than everyone else rather than one that was two seconds faster (yet only managed to just scrap pole) Special Mention to: Vettel because he had no right to be anywhere near the Mercs, and Kvyat, 2 points finishes out of 2 races, not afraid to attack but seems fairly level headed as well. (Hamilton didn't do anything that special considering how much of an advantage the mercs have, nearly lost out on pole to a car 1-2 seconds slower and just did what Vettel did for most of last year.) Race rating: 4, it might even make Monaco exciting Best Commentator/Presenter: I like BE & DC. [/QUOTE]
