Congratulations. I didn't think it possible for someone to misunderstand something on levels that I didn't even know existed.
So basically, its impossible to be a proper fan if you support Liverpool (or Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, villa, Everton, etc) because they've not dropped down the leagues? Define loads? You heard what? Twenty? thirty? forty? Hell, let's call it a thousand people call in tot he radio to complain. What percentage of Liverpool fans would that represent? How many of these callers do you hear when we've played well and/or won? As I said, fickle fans. Its like tarnishing all Man Utd fans as classless because of the plane banner or turning on Fergie at the stadium, it was a minority.
Wait... so because they support a successful club, no matter what their background is at all, they aren't proper fans?
You did really. I started supporting Liverpool when they were in the old 2nd division. Am I a 'proper fan' then?
No. I'm just saying that people who follow a **** team in the lower leagues, for years and years, are, absolutely and incontrovertibly, beyond any doubt whatsoever, proper fans. Supporters who support a big club that's had loads of success....well, the jury's out. Has to be. For all I know, Liverpool could've spent decades in Division 3 or 4 and still drawn 40,000+ every week. I guess we'll never know... Please don't worry about this accusation, though; it's not your fault such a situation exists. Not your fault that you've been spoiled by success. Damn. I knew I should've counted 'em. There were plenty.
Yes Spoilt by success but been in the wilderness for twenty plus years is quite some record you get the point.
So fans like me who supported their team when in the 2nd div. - the last thing they'd won at that point was in 1947 - aren't proper fans?
No I didn't. I don't know. Don't really care, either. If pressed though, I would ask which season(s) you watched them in the old Div 2, cos as far as I'm aware, aside from a period across the late 50s/early60s, you've spent your entire existence in the top flight.
Go easy lad, you're in danger of siding with rival fans against one of your own. Whether you agree with him or not you should never take sides against the family, have you learnt nothing from Don Corleone?
Thanks for the English lesson, Macca. I know the difference between saying something and insinuating it, and I didn't say it
Not really. I'd say you missed it, by some distance. You wouldn't know a footballing wilderness if it dropped in from Darkest Uruguay and bit your arm
