Were being linked with pension err i mean older players on free's. But if a player of Gradel's ability came along and we were interested, how much do you think we can afford to offer?

I think our highest bid on any player wld be a measely 1.5 mil :emoticon-0106-cryin

We can probably afford a transfer budget of £5m, though I'm not expecting us to pay more than £500k for any one player.

There's no point throwing money around. There are quality players to get for under a million pounds - Jack Cork, Chelsea want £750,000 for him.

Yeah but sometimes you need to pay way more than value to secure a player, teams wont let players go for value anymore,

Cork's asking price is indeed around £750,000 (link). Obviously you wouldn't need to pay more than the asking price, otherwise they'd have set a higher asking price.

If you are having to pay over a million for a player in the Championship, it's lazy scouting. There are plently of quality players out there, as shown by Becchio, Somma, Snodgrass, Gradel that you can get cheaply.

I think we will spend no more than 2m even of we sell....... Bates wont give all the transfer money we recieve to larry..

I think we will pick up a free or two and a young loan signing from a prem team maybe....

If we spend 2M on two or Three players that will be 6 in and im sure some out....

lets see i think July will be a fun Month :)

KB will not spend in excess of 400k on a player just wait and see I said last year that TOWN would spend more than us wouldn,t be surprised if that doesn,t apply again

'Goals win games, defenses win leagues.'

Looks like it's going to be a lot more expensive to improve our midfield/defense than it was to build our attack. And putting a £1m cap on signings shows almost a negative ambition: we have the money to spend so let's get out of this division ASAP, I say!

There's a lot of money wasted on rubbish players. Obviously if it's a really top quality defender/midfielder that comes in, I wouldn't be disapointed, but for example Ipswich paying £1.5million on Chopra is crap scouting.

Probably. There has to be a happy medium though between wasting money (Ridsdale) and spending virtually nothing (Bates). Some (recent) Championship teams I'd put in that category would be Norwich, Swansea and Nottingham Forest. All seemed to invest wisely without ruination, although Forest were poorly managed by Monsieur Davies. With the squad they've got, I wouldn't be surprised if they went for auto this season. With the strength of this division, we need some real leaders now rather than followers, and the majority of those players sure as hell won't come cheap.

Yeah, I'm not against spending money, but just it has to be on the right players. We have a strong nucleus of attacking players already, so if we bring in 4 or so quality players then we'll be right up there. Grayson's not the best in the transfer market though.

Well the swans did it without spending hugely, think our entire team cost far less than £4m in total, really you don't to spend a fortune, you need to spend wisely

Don't want this to stray off topic, but Swansea spent £4m between 09 and 11, we spent £1.2m. You were the lowest spending team in the top six last year as well. You don't have to spend hugely to get promoted, but you do have to spend at least a couple of million it seems.

The point is yes you could £1m-£2m on players, but that may not get you promoted, really you don't need to spend a fortune, I read an article about the swans a few days ago, in it mentioned Leeds who were the most profitable club in the league, so you are going the right way, you just need to be very canny and invest in the right places.

See I can talk about football sometimes ;) good luck in finding balance

Regarding CM, there are a few quality frees about (Frings, Smudger, Pratley (maybe a bit ambitious)) and Chelsea only want £750k for Cork.

No worries , I do wum (obviously) but do have ethics, I never disrupt a thread that people are discussing their team, a rumour thread is just banter ;) anyway, I know this is not about Leeds, but take a look at the graphics, it does show Leeds in a positive light than some clubs, you were second most profitable by the way

By the way this guy really knows his stuff, I learnt quite a lot about my club from him, he has done other articles about clubs, not Leeds though
