Next weekend sees these two (Everton & Arsenal) battling it out for the final Champions League spot. We play 'em both (at home) before the end of the season.
If we beat Sheffield United in 2 weeks time, our European adventures are full of intrigue & possibilities, never mind our survival !!
Never a dull moment in the life of a City supporter !!!

Hoping that Everton get the Champions League spot.

So, can you lose to Everton but beat Arsenal?

Therein lies the rub. I'd much prefer Everton to get into the Champs League over Arsenal, hence I want them to win next weekend. & win their game in hand over Arsenal.
Beating either of them is a difficult task for Hull City AFC in the nervous throws of Premier League survival...however I'm confident we'll survive through other results.
I think I'd sacrifice my Everton desire & hatred for Arsenal for a European challenge for the Tigers....what a dilemma. Hate this game....

Consider this hypothetical situation... Last (league) game of the season. A victory over Everton means survival and European football. Biggest game in the club's history?

Followed by an even bigger game next time out?

We could just win the Cup and not have to worry about it?

You'd need Everton to need something from the game against us for it to be tense. Otherwise I can think of a million reasons Everton wouldn't be that difficult to beat in their final game of the season before their players jet off to the World Cup.

Yeah, sorry. I neglected to mention that 4th for them would be assured with a draw and a point wouldn't be good enough for us to stay up.

Dont think it shall happen. Arsenal should just keep hold of 4th spot.

Everton have home games against Arsenal - Palace - both Manchesters and trips to Sunderland and Southampton before they come to us.

Everton - Hull City and either Spurs or Man Utd in the europa league imo.

Unfortunately I make you probably right there.

In any case, even if the race for 4th is still alive come the last day and our visit to the KC, I think you'll be well out of any kind of relegation danger anyway & hopefully with a Cup Final apt the following week so your players will be backing out of every 50/50 :)

Even if Arsenal finish 5th wouldn't that mean they get Europa League still?

    Really?

I thought due to Arsenal finishing 5th and qualifying for it through the league we would still get it through the cup?

If not what's the reasoning behind that?

If we won the cup we would, or if we came runner up to a team already playing Champions league football through league qualification. If Arsenal come 5th and we lose to them in the final we will not get into Europe as it will be 5th and 6th in the premier league who qualify

    You will.

EL places are already down to 5th, 6th placed teams in the league. If you lose to Arsenal in the cup final you get the EL place [assuming Arsenal already have Europe place].

FA Cup winners or losers [if winner is already in Europe] get EL place.

If Wigan beat Arsenal however .... there's a real place in Europe at stake.
