Adam Blackmore has got some info from the club on this it seems, in terms of how we are going to operate in the market. Due out in the morning. Are we gonna do a Liverpool and only sign people below a certain age or some such? DTLW
I'd rather that kind of info wasn't publically disclosed. Let's not flash our rivals/counterbidders with a complete full frontal. A touch of the Cortese's would be good on some things...
I'm going to guess it will have something to do with agent fees, but will wait and see. Like LTL says some things are best not to share and I wouldn't want us to rule out signings based on age as experience will be a necessary facet to complement the academy players.
Well we can only wait and see. Could just be BBC and Blackmore trying to make something out of nothing.
I doubt that we are going to come right out and say we won't pay over £X mill, but it may be something along the lines of a bigger reliance on the Academy (giving scholars real hope of coming through) and not bringing in anyone unless they are better. We have bought some duds, so it may not be a bad thing. Think that although this is all part of our 'philosophy', a reliance on the Academy may reflect the need to recoup the 30 mill spent on it. Not unexpected really...I understand Wenger was told that his transfer budget was slashed because of the cost of building the Emirates. I think we will not be spending large sums out on players (unless strictly necessary) whilst our finances get on an even keel. I expect the word Barcelona to feature at least once in any statement.
Seems from what has been released so far it is just "we won't sell anyone we don't want to". Good news I guess, though hardly a new direction!
Reading between the lines it seems the new policy is that we won't be spending as much this summer. Which isn't good news given we have a small squad and need more attacking options.
I doubt there will be a complete embargo on purchases, but more a case of working within a budget. Clear out some players...even at a loss...something Nicola wasn't prepared to do. Called cutting your losses. I also suspect that KL is sitting on a contingency fund....doesn't want to use it, but could be persuaded to if needed. We've had an expensive few years (promotion bonuses weren't cheap, I suspect)...time to sort things out.
I'm sure if a Michu mark 2 is out there for 2.5m, they'll pay it. As said by others here, maybe just a little more financial prudence.
Nobody has suggested there is a total embargo but nobody can argue that not being able to pay substantial transfer fees is a better position than being able to do so.
We need to strengthen if we are to make any further progress, but we don't want to make the mistake of signing over paid Prima Donnas, who only have respect for their wallets, we need quality, but compatible players that will respect the badge and play for the Club and their team mates, they are a rare commodity but I am sure that they are out there somewhere, otherwise we hope to see more coming up through the ranks.
There isn't a direct correlation between how much we have paid for someone and their effectiveness for us.
You never know, it may be a response to all the press speculation that Saints get on supposed transfers. Maybe they've thought of a way to shut them all up..? At least for 5 minutes.
The Liebherrs have invested £52.7million since buying Saints with £37.9million of this having been converted into equity shares. How does this work?
Who says we're not able to pay them? They made a loan initially, but instead of having it repaid, turned it into a purchase of shares.
