I was thinking about that yesterday. Apart from the English contingent, a number have grown up with the Saints, others like Fonte and Schneiderlin have been with us for years. The connection between the fans and the players is really unprecedented in modern times. Maybe Man Utds 'kids' were similar.

But looking at the Newcastle team, there is no real connection at all and I would suspect that next year half that team will have gone and another bunch will be in.

Unfortunately you've also got Gerrard, Lampard, Wilshere, Henderson, Barkley. Milner and Chambo can play centrally.

I don't think anyone is forgetting about Cork. It's just that he has a 0% chance of going, and hence they is little point in mentioning him.

But yes, quite how Cleverley can be ahead of him in the pecking order...

It was an amazing game in many respects. We had 5 really score-able chances in the first 20 minutes. That moment before Lambert passed to Rodriguez for the first goal seemed to last for ages. You could almost see his brain ticking over…shoot or pass, shoot or pass? In the end it was still a bit of a miss-kick that got it over the line.

Really, Newcastle could have had no complaints if the score had been 8-0.

And, whilst we are talking about Cork, I thought he showed a lot of aggression and desire yesterday. In these sort of games he is so dominant its amazing. However, he was poor in the second half against Spurs. Whether that was to do with the quality of the opposition or the fact that the rest of our team went missing as well, I don't know. So, how he would show on the international scene is still open to debate. Its a shame that he is unlikely to get a chance though.

I only saw live from up the other end, but looked like a straight red to me.

In the Echo, Shaw going on about how great it is here....doesn't sound like someone decided on going.

Yeah, I was going to post a few links here from NewsNow about that. Most of the headlines read something like... Shaw loving it at Southampton. I agree, the words don't read anything like a player who is looking at the immediate future and moving on. He's looking to stick around for several years, which is exactly what we need.

Full of praise for the 3 English guys ahead of him up the pitch, and also put in a word for an excellent performance from his mate Calum Chambers, who must be a shoo-in to move up to England U21s soon, and then who knows..? Nat Clyne has certainly got some real competition at RB.

I know it's easier to feel confident after a win, but I honestly can't see any of our big players leaving in the summer.

None of the top four need an attacking midfielder. United may be linked with Lallana, but he only has to look to see how they have treated Kagawa to see that moving there and being legs for Mata would be a mistake. Spurs are a shambles and anywhere else is sideways at best.
Shaw may attract bids, but with a four years left on his contract and no hint of a lad looking to manufacture a move away i'm thinking he will stick around

Yep, commentators were saying that on another day, with another ref, that could have been a straight red. Marriner did his best to keep things ticking along, and in doing so made the odd error by not making a decision.

Some great passing by Prowse in the 1st half, still think he'll be a hell of a player in 5 years time. Great vision and range of passing, just needs a more complete toolkit.

I don't know what I can add to this discussion. Saints were beautiful to watch yesterday, and it was one of the most enjoyable matches I've ever seen (helped by the weather and good banter from the Geordie fans). Everyone performed brilliantly, with special note to Lallana who was an absolute magician. All game he performed little tricks, perfect passing, going past Newcastle players like they weren't there. He was a joy to watch. Also a note to Elliot in the Newcastle goal, made some fantastic saves.

I've previously been vocal about Clyne, how I thought he was our best right back. After yesterday, I'm not 100% sure anymore, as Chambers was fantastic.

Fonte made the one mistake of the game, having a bit of a deja vu moment, other than that he was very good like everyone else!

I thought he was very good, I'd say he was our best player outside of the three scorers - him or Chambers, anyway.

The idiot behind me said after about half an hour "come on Lallana, you've done nothing yet, how about some magic?" He also kept referring to Callum Chambers as "Luke". Some people are such bell ends.

Morning all, just got back from my weekend in your fine city <ok>

Not much to say about the game other than 4-0 hugely flattered us. Could and should have been at least 7-0. Elliott was the only player to come out with any credit for us.

You really put us to the sword and as stated a few days before the game I really admire your set up with all the young English lads and your style of play. Had some decent banter in Yates' before the game and thought the atmosphere in the stadium was very good too.

Had a cracking weekend (aside from 90 minutes of it) so good luck for the remainder of the season <ok>

This was something that was going to happen sooner or later, you were unlucky that it happened to be you there when it did! We are slowly getting over a batch of serious injuries which have cost us, you still have a few which affected your best team availability, and also perhaps, the Season hasn't got a lot to offer now, with mid table safety.
