A bit too old for Mike?

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/newcastle-make-offer-mathieu-valbuena-according-reports/

Newcastle have made an opening offer for Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena according to media reports.

Despite being under contract until 2017, Marseille have already made clear that they are willing to sell the French international this summer to help enable them to rebuild their team. The French club are way off the pace this season, currently in sixth place and a massive 32 points off top team PSG.

Valbuena looks a certainty to be on the plane to Brazil and he lined up alongside Yohan Cabaye in France’s last match against Holland.

The Marseille player isn’t the biggest goalscorer and five is his highest league total down the years, this year he has scored twice but also made seven assists, the kind of creativity Newcastle are desperate for.

Full of experience, the midfielder has played all of his football at Marseille and as well as league and cup honours, he also has played extensively in the Champions League.

Not surprisingly other clubs are also said to be interested with Tottenham claimed to have made initial contact as well as Atletico Madrid.

At 29 you would have previously assumed Mathieu Valbuena fell outside Mike Ashley’s area of interest but the recent reliance on loan signings would appear to indicate that anything goes at St.James’ Park these days.

Like everything else at Newcastle United these days, what happens in the summer with regard to Valbuena, or anybody else, is open to question.

I wish we'd stop looking at France and start looking English. Richards from Man City would be a good addition and within our reach.

We tried though don't you know? We have identified our targets (just one for each required position - lets not go crazy) and if we can't get them for the price we think they are worth/convince them to join then we'll move on. Oh yeah, the less likely said player is to join the happier Mike is so all is well.

Talking about transfers, Ajax - Fc Twente is up in 5, think about 10 players on both sides in total have one year left on their contracts so lots of targets.

An extra incentive to watch is that if Ajax wins, they're almost certain of winning the title, if Twente wins, everything can happen in the last 4 games.

As a born Rotterdammer and Feyenoord supporter I am hoping Twente stuff them this afternoon. Just watched Feyenoord thrash GA Eagles 5 - 0 so that at least partially cancels out the awful result from yesterday.

Also, with Koeman leaving at the end of the season I for one would love to see him take over from Pardew. He's been linked with Swansea for some reason but I reckon he can do better than that.

Was a good game for Feyenoord indeed, Te Vrede looked pretty solid from time to time, but no replacement for Pelle.

Anyways, list op players to watch(I.E contracts up in a year or less after this summer):

    Ajax:
    Van Rijn(1y) RB
    Schone(1y) CM,AM,RM
    Serero(1y) AM
    Moisander(1y) CB

    Twente:
    Rosales(Free agent) RB
    Tadic(1y) AM,CF,RM
    Bengtsson(1y) CB

Can't see fat Mike sacking Pardew looking at the table. At the end of the season, it's all about progression and right now youre 7 places up compared to last year, 6 points clear of Stoke and at least 9 of Aston Villa. So you basically can't go worse than 10th place this season. So no, can't see Koeman moving to Tyneside.

A little side note in The Sun this morning on Richards, with us reportedly interested in him and willing to pay £80k a week.
A bit early for April Fools Day stories. <laugh>

Richards isn't within our reach as he will want to go to a club with some ambition and not be under the management of a clueless **** **** like our man Pards.

Sadly we can probably say the same of any player worth their salt these days. Still, I felt the same leading up to the summer transfer window after we had sold Carroll. We'll just have to wait and see.
