Thats bullshit. Up front we've got Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge and Lambert who are all better than Carroll. CB is by far England's weakest position. Davies has been near perfect in every game this season yet he's not even considered: ahead of him are Smalling, Jones and Caulker!
A lot of non City fans seem to be bias against Davies, they can't comprehend the idea that he's been as good as he has.
Davies has to cope with more pressure week in week out as ball as he plays for City in terms of holding together a defence in a smaller club. It's more of a challenge on the pitch. let's be fair the bigger clubs for whom Smalling etc play have supposedly better quality around them.
I said there are 5 as good as or better. And I could name them quite easily. In fact I could name more than 5. There are loads of decent English defenders - which is all Davies is.
I can run a marathon in under 2 hours as long as you don't get me to prove it! Either name them or shut up.
I think the remit was "as good as or better". Would have put Wes Morgan in of course, but he plays for Jamaica now.
Terry is retired so won't go to the world cup, Caulker is a very average player who gets a biased opinion as he is young, he is leading the worst defensive in the division who conceded 3 again today. Lescott and Richards have rarely played, and you will not find a Man City fan who wants them in the England squad. I am not saying Davies is the best defender in the division this season (Even if stats show he probably is), he is a very good centre back who has earned his England place as week in week out he has been excellent. Compare that to Huddlestone who has been excellent but there are better players in his position with Davies there really isn't.
Once again, the remit was "English players who are as good as or better than Davies", all of those are.
This is pointless. This fella clearly hasn't watched Davies much this season, and if we start dissing other clubs' players then you could make the same accusation about us. In fact, that's why the multi-board forum idea fails.
Even if he gives a list, it doesn't prove anything. It's like saying "I'm the best centre half in England because I say so". It's all about opinions, ultimately Roy Hodgson's is the one that maters.
Not a great deal no. I've seen him once live this season and a few times on telly. He looks decent and is quite possibly good enough to be in the England squad. But not at the expense of the other decent centre halves already in the squad. If he was that good, he would have played for bigger clubs than he has by the age of 30 odd and wouldn't be at Hull Tigers now. Not having a pop by the way. I also think Tomkins is a good centre back but West Ham is probably about his level.
