As we've got a couple of newish users that don't seem to be familiar with how message boards should work we'll have this sticky for the weekend in place of the poll help thread (as the ballot is now closed we don't really need that one):

    1) If you have an issue with a post not being deleted on here use the report post button (the little triangle sign one at the bottom left of the post) to report it. If you do that all the mods get an email giving us a direct link to the post, and you can even tell us why you want it deleting if it's not obvious. Failing that you can always PM a mod to draw our attention to something, though as we don't get emails to that as well if we're not on the site at the time it'll take us longer to react. (If I get an email saying someone has posted somebody's name and address on the board I'm more likely to make a special trip onto the site to delete it than if it's just a general moderating thing, but by PM both would wait until I next came on naturally). We obviously need to see a post is there and know there's an issue with it before we can delete it, and particularly in my case at the moment I'm not reading every post on the site every time I come on.

Both methods are going to result in things being looked at much more quickly than asking someone on Twitter if the reason we haven't deleted something is because we're CTWD members as has happened this week.

Firstly, it'll be quicker because unless one of us follows you on twitter we're not going to see it unless the person you ask is someone we follow retweets it or responds to it and we see that tweet.

Secondly, I shouldn't need to clarify this on a moderating thread but as it came up on twitter I'll explain my position here for those who haven't read the name change thread. I don't know about the other mods, but I've openly stated I'm not a member of CTWD. I'm not even completely against a name change, I'd consider every proposal on its merits. I've supported the CTWD side to things in this one from day one because there's been no convincing reason put forward. I understand financial matters better than most for a number of reasons (specifically having chosen to study modules related to international corporate finance, and looking at football finance in particular for my degree over the last couple of years) and everything that has been said has instantly looked wrong so I've questioned it. That's not being big headed, I'm fortunate in this situation it ties in with my professional choices and my obsessively analytical manner, in other situations I'd flounder compared to other posters on here. The fact we've been repeatedly told outright lies* has made me more vocal in the challenging of things more recently, particularly during the poll as I'm not at all impressed with the conduct of club officials making the whole thing such a farce in that underhand way. For balance you'll also notice (or can find on twitter if it's not on here) that that I disagreed with the criticism of the "Don't Care" option being included, and have even defended the club on the need to put our details on ballot forms. (I think it's an inept result of trying to rush their poll through when they realised the FA weren't going to say Yes rather than a sinister attempt to identify which way each person is voting)

*eg HDM interview when there were 2 sponsors signed up subject to the name change, but then Ehab says in an open letter not long after that they just think the change will give us an edge with the companies we're negotiating with, and then it turns out we haven't had a single offer to sponsor Hull Tigers. Or the metaphor about walking out in 24 hours that was nothing more than an attempt to scare fans into thinking about the bad old days.

2 - Posting of personal information

If it is your own personal information then it's up to you whether to post it or not. We would obviously suggest you don't post anything which can identify you unless you're happy to be identified, that's even as far as email addresses (use PMs rather than having it on the open forum, and don't do it unless you trust the user in question).

If you're posting information about other posters it is only acceptable to post what is already in the public domain. In my case for example it's fairly obvious my name is Richard, I'm a student who lives in Dunfermline, I have family in Hull, and that my twitter account is basically the same as my username on here so all that's fine. It's also fine to comment that I'm a gobby twat that sits in E5, because I've posted that on here before. It would not be acceptable to post my full name, the uni I'm at, anything about my address other than it being in Dunfermline, or any details about my family, or my row and seat number. It's also not acceptable to try posting links to my facebook account purely in order to identify me.

There is a difference however if we're drawing attention to what someone has said on their personal twitter account and that gives their real name, they can't complain about that being linked to on here. They've put their name in the public arena and that's what is being linked to. Connecting it to anyone on here in that situation has to be considered case by case. If for example my twitter was under a different username and it got linked to on here and I didn't make any comment on what was being said, identifying it as me would be wrong, but if I was commenting away then it would be fair to avoid any confusion about me being two different people. (to be honest I think I'd say anyway, but you know what I mean).

    3) What's narked me most about feeling the need to make this thread is hard to work out.

I don't know if it's more annoying that because of one post that only says what stand someone sits in and has a photo of somebody who isn't apparently them anyway someone has decided to go around on twitter accusing me (and the other mods) of intentionally letting people threaten them and encourage going after them just because they're in favour of the name change. The fact that same person whilst doing that is trying to use it to discredit CTWD by drawing the assumption that those motives would come from the mods all being members (when as stated I'm not). The fact these complaints about shocking moderating allowing all this have come on a completely different site where we weren't likely to see them to have a reply. The fact that the poster in question didn't use the report option, send a PM to the mods (as far as I can see), or even make a post complaining about it on the thread in question. Or, lastly, the fact that the post that's caused the issue was made by someone that has previously complained about personal information being posted about themselves and had at least 2 of the 3 mods act to remove the information and ban a user that kept posting it.

It's effectively become a 10-15 minute job clarifying what should and shouldn't be posted as a result of a post from someone who should have known better than to post what they did, and got blown out of proportion by another to the extent that identifying the stand someone sits in appears to onlookers who don't use this site (and are dim enough to believe it, it is the internet remember) as though CTWD are actively arranging or encouraging underworld beatings for anybody opposed to them.
