According to Ruud Gullit, Daniel Levy has met with Louis van Gaal and signed the Dutchman up to manage us from next season. Over at the BBC website, it states:

"Ruud Gullit says Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has met with Louis van Gaal and claims it is a "done deal" that the Dutchman will take over as Spurs boss. Van Gaal, 62, will be replaced by Guus Hiddink as coach of the Netherlands after this summer's World Cup. Spurs named Tim Sherwood, 45, as head coach on an 18-month deal in December. Former Chelsea manager Gullit said: "I know for sure the chairman of Tottenham was at Van Gaal's house. I think it's a done deal, but you never know."

Assuming this is true, how do we all feel about this appointment?

He's Dutch which means he will have a greater understanding of our football than the Spanish or Portugese. He has huge experience which suggests he will not be blown around in the PL wind.

If it's true then it sounds like a sensible path to take provided we don't sack him at the first sign of results not going our way.

I'm personally excited and pleased if this news is true. Sherwood has done a good job considering his lack of experience but it is time Spurs hired a top class manager that comes with a reputation and glowing CV to see if we can finally reach our potential.

We've hired some so-called "promising" managers but never went out to get someone with real pedigree or European wide experience (and titles). This for me is Levy's last throw of the dice. He didn't want this opportunity to pass him by and realises our season is now effectively over, so any news leaked wouldn't make much difference to our run in (even if it does upset Sherwood). We spent all that money on rebuilding our squad so now we'll see if we finally have a manager who call pull it all together and build a solid team that can mount a serious and sustained challenge.

LVG has a nice ring to it.

Why wouldn't we want a manager with his history?

Can't see it though. He's off to Man Utd and we're probably being used.

    Probably a wise move <ok>

I don't think so. I can really see United sticking by Moyes for at least another season...

Can anyone name a Van Gaal team without looking at google and Wiki to remember the line up and then tell us about the style of play and some of his great matches? I doubt it! thats why most of us are just looking at the name and assuming he is going to be a great manager because he had success with Bayern and Barca.

But I like his words, good article here

    http://www.fifa.com/world-match-centre/news/newsid/667/683/index.html

Also, it sounds like he falls out often with players due to his demanding personality, but that could work in our favour as we don't have many big name stars anymore, unlike at Barca and Munich where he would upset the big names.

Gullit is probably preparing to release a book or start a newspaper column, as that's the usual, big themselves up and stick the boot in!

Boss, he also did a great job with AZ and a couple of other "underdog" teams, which gives me confidence in his ability. I know Schteve did well in Holland too but... well I might have undermined my point. Van Gaal did it with lots of style though.

I feel sorry for Sherwood that this is coming out. He seems like a good guy and he deserves a good long term opportunity to gain the experience he needs to become a successful manager, we just don't really have the time to wait for that at Spurs.

Clearly Spurf's never seen Napoleon Dynamite! Frickin' idiot.... Gosh! <laugh>

If the appointment is true, It's great news IMO. LVG is about as good as we can hope for, and as Spurf says, his dutch ways are likely to suit Spurs. Very excited if true. I've got to the point now where I cannot bear Sherwood.

Players like Eriksen and Adebayor will be disappointed if Sherwood is sacked early and where does this leave Bentaleb? Although if Bentaleb goes onto become a top player under Van Gaal then we can thank Sherwood for giving him a chance.
