I always wondered about those puff pieces occasionally put out by Nicola promoting the idea that everyone would leave if he did. The players and Mauricio just wanted to know that everything was going on as before and they were fine with losing their Chairman. Not saying they didn't admire him, like him or whatever, but they were not going to throw their dummies out of the pram. As DTLW says, Mauricio is indicating that he is happy here and looking forward to next season. I bet they will all be glad when the new training facilities open...can't be easy training on a building site. Mauricio's office was crammed with 3 desks. And the changing room (visible in the curling video) was minimalist to say the least.
Adam Blackmore: MP says talks on his own future can wait - "My focus is on our season. Don't forget I have a year left on my current contract". Simon Peach: Pochettino was quizzed a lot on his #SaintsFC future today but refused to bite. "I do have one more year on my contract, don't I?"
My impression of Poch is that, despite all the attempts from outside to raise speculation and unsettle a situation that barely has any life in it, he continually refers to the fact that he has another full season left on his contract. His attitude appears to be that he isn't going anywhere in that time unless someone at the club says go. He seems quite happy with the idea that as far as his contract is concerned, mañana is perfectly OK to sort it out.
Just seen this from Adam Blackmore of BBC Radio Solent, when asked what the likelihood was of Pochettino staying: "bigger than some think - I reckon he's got a great situation at Saints now NC is not breathing down his neck" "who knows - he (MP) may have loved him (NC), but it was tough love, trust me"
Artur Boruc: "I think sooner or later, it's going to happen. We'll see what's going to happen next week. I think it's gonna happen, sooner rather than later, anyway. We are going to play the best we can to try and help him with it this week. He knows a lot of good things in Southampton Football Club, and I think that's the way we should go."
I noticed that Boruc said next week, but didn't get my hopes up as there probably isn't a set day for a decision, considering that Mauricio still has a year left.
Courtesy of Simon Peach: Mauricio Pochettino wants to sit down with the #SaintsFC board to discuss his and the club's future - but not until the season is over. "I think once the season is over, we can make a deep analysis of how we want to move forward," Pochettino said of his #SaintsFC future.
It will depend on movements imo. If we allow him funds to bring in top players and keep those we already have he'll stay. Start penny pinching and he will be tempted to go.
Mustn't assume that only highly priced players are good enough for us. A young player with the right potential could be moulded to fit the team. Some of our best players were bargains. In fact, I think the opposite...a highly priced player who comes into the team thinking he is the big star probably won't work out...look at Dani. It's not the price....it's the ability (potential) and, almost above all, the right attitude.
Mauricio clearly has very definite ideas about how the game should be played, and with us at the moment he has a squad capable of putting those ideas into practice. Moreover, I don't think his style of play would suit a dressing room full of big-time-Charlies, being as it's such a hard grafting team approach. On the other hand, having had his best players consistently sold out from under him at Espanyol, he'll probably be anxious to ensure that doesn't happen at Saints. Whatever is needed to keep him, I hope and believe we can offer.
Mauricio and Saints are like a perfect storm. The players have enough quality (including a few real stars) to carry out his plan, but also do everything he asks because they believe in him as they are achieving more than most could have hoped. A big star would probably think he could achieve more at another club with a lot less effort.
José Fonte: "If you want this club to go higher & better in my mind there's no doubt that we need to keep Mauricio for a long time." "Keeping Mauricio you probably keep the most important players. We love to play under him & know where the club is going if he stays."
I think the same. Ramirez and Dani were big star purchase and didn't fit into the team's spirit, but I think/hope Ramirez has settled down now. To challenge top 4, we'll have to buy a load of star players at the same time otherwise they'll feel above the club and won't have huge team unity.
You really think Ramirez didn't fit in to the team in terms of personality? Never looked like that to me.
