100% Not being able to score away vs an on-form West Ham is one thing. Hanging on for dear life vs Palace and let's face it dieing on our arse vs West Brom at home is another.
All I am saying is that some here talk like the Johnny Come Lately's who became Swansea City fans when they became a Premier League team, who valued Laudrup more than Monk on the basis of who the former is and who the latter is. These people are easy to identify in the Stadium and pubs, they appear to be expectant of the Swans replacing Laudrup with an already established world class manager or perhaps thinking we can sign players Michu and Bony three times apiece per summer transfer window. My reference is based on some here saying Monk is not the right man and then mentioning terms and phrases like Rookie manager or no contacts. At the end of the day Monks record is no worse than Laudrups if the important stats are used (Laudrups last games and Monks), but we do look more potent under the new guy and that includes comparisons to the fully healthy line ups Laudrup did have at his disposal earlier in the season. Under Laudrup the rot didn't appear to have an end in sight, he was starting to underperform against all opposition. Under Monk there has only been two bad halves, the rest has shown promise even if results are similar... At least a turning point now looks real.
It's not about valuing Monk - his contribution to getting us to the Premier league is immeasurable but that doesn't mean he should be put in a position beyond his capability. Laudrup's results were better than Monk's
Laudrup is a part of our history; I thought the guy was a legend and a gentleman but he has gone! Garry is now our manager and I am behind him 100% - his appointment is a gamble, club legend that he is (we all remember Newcastle trying a similar thing a few seasons ago with one of their legends and all know what happened there!). But all this negativity is getting boring, so many threads are turning into pointless Laudrup v Monk debates and some of the arguments are descending to an 'I am a better fan than you' crassness! Here's an idea - and it may be way out of the comfort zone of many posters here - but let's all get behind the manager and team for the last 7 games! GM is our manager, like it or lump it, so instead of whining about how inept he is why not get behind him - start by shouting your arses off tomorrow when Norwich come to the Liberty! Our destiny is still in our own hands and the Liberty faithful can influence that destiny by being a noisy and intimidating '11th man'. Laudrup the footballing legend was a great manager for us, and I will be eternally grateful to him - Monk the club legend is our current manager and I am similarly grateful for his efforts in keeping us up! So let's put the 'who is the best' school-yard cheer leading aside and get behind the guy who is now in charge; we can argue the pro's and con's of his suitability for the job until we are blue in the face, but it won't change the fact that he IS in the job. Let's put our personal opinions to one side for 7 games and get right behind Garry and the team then, if we are still Premier League come next season, you can slag him off all you want!
Everyone is behind Monk , now that he's here, it's not the point .If people want to think everything that happened to Laudrup from the board is ok , no problems . Just let others debate what they judge is an error please .......thanks.
Project dont call me a Johnny come lately, Ive been on this forum since outset and was on BBC 606 for years before that. Ive followed the Swans since being taken there in the late sixties. Disagree with me but dont slate me for that. I dont buy into the Monk as hero bull, Monk cost us more games than he ever won us. My worry is that he will take the club out of the Premiership and that will cost the whole city. He wasnt up to the job as a defender and isnt up to the job as manager. Laudrups gone, but we deserve a proper manager at this club. Its time a lot of people took off their rose tinted glasses and saw our true position. Hopefully we can make some ground up against Norwich otherwise we will be up to our necks in it.
I do not know how many times I have to repeat the fact that we are not going down, so can we all get behind Monk, as our club will not be replacing him at least until the summer, so no point in moaning about a situation we cannot change, cartoon is right we need to support Monk now whether we like it or not, all hands on deck so to speak, and come the summer I'm sure our board will make the right decision, today I'm sure Monk will get our boys right up for the game against Norwich!............ Wilfried Bony can be a bigger star than Didier Drogba! - Garry Monk
I really hope your right Phil set us up to reshuffle in the summer, new manager early and a few early signings!
Why is it that I, for the passion for the club, must switch off my brain and close my ears and mouth?
Wilfried Bony can be a bigger star than Didier Drogba! - Garry Monk - lol if he was playing for Chelsea he may be
The Laudrup v. Monk debate will keep rumbling on for a while yet because it is the major talking point of the season. Simple as that.
Unfortunately I have to agree with that. Too bad though, this season had so much potential to it. No matter what, the Swansea way needs evaluation, dare I say change...
Well the Swansea Way is working at Everton and Liverpool and has worked for us the past 10-11 years and long may it continue.
Everton and Liverpool are ambitious, high spending, clubs. The Swansea board aren't ambitious in that sense: they have the clubs best in mind, I'm sure. I just disagree with the way they they protect their responsibilities. You have to invest your surplus to evolve: basic business strategy. The way they got through transfer Windows says it all...
We ain't in a position to spend huge sums of money yet. Maybe we should demand a rich owner like Tan who throws money around and messes everything up just so we can spout we spent 30-40 million in a transfer window. And do you honestly believe that the board are not ambitious? As for protecting their responsibilities, their responsibilities are to protect the club, and that is what they are doing.
Yes, I honestly claim the board is unambitious: compared to a premier league status.... The January transfer window says it all...
I can't imagine anyone would consider the way it was handled was ideal but it's not debate, it's conjecture. No one actually knows any facts. "yet" - absolutely. The longer we're in the Prem the better our resources for transfers will be precisely because the club's run prudently.
Compared to a premier league status, the board are being sensible. Bigger clubs than so have spent big and gone tits up. We need to spend sensible and increase our stadium capacity before spending huge sums of money.
