Disagree with that Billy, the same happened against Cardiff & Manchester United. I think its more a case of us having so many right footers in the team. Everyone is more comfortable playing toward the right side in midfield and defence so we always end up going to that side.

Case in point: At Spurs, it was the other way around actually - Hendo was played on the left side with Flano, whereas Allen sat ahead of GJ. And I recall Flano had a great offensive game along with his goal. (can't find the detailed stats for that game however). If BR won't swap GJ with Flano, at least swap Hendo with Allen...

Let's not forget Coutinho was also starting on the left on that game, even though he cuts in most of the time. And if you look at Flanagan's goal again, the build up was all on the right hand side, he was just arriving in the box to score at the right time (not discrediting him at all btw). I don't think its something we can avoid until Enrique comes back or if we play Cissokho instead of Flanagan

I'm pretty sure if you swapped flanks wholesale, GJ/Hendo on the left would generate more than Flano/Allen on the right. If so, the discrepancy isn't due to the nature of the sides themselves (relative to foot dominance)

Possibly, but I still feel their instinct would be to cut back and pass it across to the right hand side or cut in and shoot. So we'd still have the issue of lack of width and all of the play going toward the right hand side.

Grind out a result, whether one Nil or 4:3. Three points is the one that matters.<ok>

Easiest way to solve it, is to play Sterling down the left.

That would resolve it, but it would stretch the team out and make it unbalanced and vulnerable against defensive teams. At WBA, Fulham, Stoke and at home v Villa and Swansea(1st half) - our midfield didn't control the play well without Allen.

If we are to play Gerrard, then he NEEDS Allen and Henderson in front of him.

...IF we seek to control the ball, right? Because if we're out to counterattack, we're better off with a compact 433 with Gerrard, Hendo, Couts & SASAS.

Nope. Gerrard needs Allen and Henderson. Both are disciplined, press well and are more defensive than Sterling and Coutinho.

    Sorry, misread your comment!

Agreed - if we want to control, then Allen is needed.

But against teams that want to attack us, allowing us to counter, then we could use Coutinho/Sterling instead of Allen.
