Sorry to spoil your evening brb, but Callum has gone to Dover for the restof the season. I, personnally, from what I saw of him, didnt think he was good enough, but I know lots of you didnt share my view.
He's only 21. Plenty of time. Bit of first team football will do him good. He needs to go there show what he can do. If he helps get them promoted it'll also give his confidence a boost and he can come back preseason and push on. Seems strange to off load a CB without a replacement but there's still time.
Or maybe Peter Taylor might be bowing to Callum Davies's wishes to allow him to go out on loan so that Callum Davies can play competitive first team football ??? Callum also put in a loan request after our 3 - 2 defeat to Crawley Town earlier in the season but Leon Legge got injured in that game and Callum's loan move was scrapped. I wish Callum Davies all the best at Dover Athletic and hope Callum gets a good run of competitive matches between now and the end of the season.
Good decision to send him on loan, personally I agree with you Vinney, has not done anything to make me think he warrants a first team place especially after seeing a actually very commanding display from Barrett and perhaps more so Legge. Has time to make it into the first team but lets put it this way, if he was 27 instead on 21 I could have seen him be offloaded permanently.
good for him to get some games and hopefully if he does well will be given more of a chance next season. We have the youngster from Palace on loan so he will not feature in the first team.
Davies concedes one goal this season and got massacred for it, yeah ok he got caught out, whereas overall we have conceded a grand total of 63 goals! Someone want to explain the logic of that for me?...along with the fortunes of Muggleton and previously Essam.
BRB I do have to respect your opinions but where does the sympathy stop? After how many goals do you think he's not first team standard?
Am I right in thinking both MA and PT didn't/don't seem to rate Callum? So there must be something about him. PT has after all given youth a pretty fair go this season. Maybe there is something about Callum that is not right for our team in div1. I don't think any manager would particularly go out of his way to bring in players whilst loaning out our own, unless there was a pretty good reason to do so.
Good question. It's not sympathy. I've said most of the season that Barrett needs to be dropped but it don't happen apart from the odd one or was it two games. Then 63 goals later he is still a nailed on start, while we continue to ship out our youngsters. I think i'm generally looking at the whole picture and the way forward, rather than just the one individual. I think it said it all when i was at the game where Davies gave away the challenge that led to the subsequent penalty and sending off, I put my head in my hands, why did i do that, because I knew everyone would crucify him for the mistake. So even if it is seen as sympathy, if I'm the only one giving it and supporting our youngsters then I will continue to do so, within reason and within the passion I always show. It seems ok to carry on as we are with a defence that has more links than a sinking titanic. I'll support every individual player on the day but i will say it as it is on non match days. Innis has 45 minutes on the pitch and quite a lot of supporters were raving, so that says to me Barrett is not good enough or was it Legge he replaced can;t remember. So coming back to the original question, how long? As long has a defence that is allowed to concede the amount of goals that we've conceded this season...basically a fair chance in the same way as is shown to the seniors.
That's wrong Sir Keefy, I honestly believe from memory, MA supported Davies and this was despite Essam being what I thought was the number one choice out of the two at the time. Davies even gave a good media rapport about MA, due to it.
The problem with fans discussing team selection is that we only see a small fraction of the player, whils the manager seems them daily so would be in a better place to judge players. Plus it is even more difficlut with youngster, Davies may be a better individual player than Barrett but can he "hack" the pressure of a first team football at this stage of his career? Or can he play in the system / with the players Taylor wants him too? We simply can't judge as we don't have enough information. That said all the best to the lad, I hope the experience helps him develop as a player.
Just want to say, everyone who judged Callum by saying he wasn't up to it at this level, I hope you have your tails between your legs. PegLeg's right again
