It was Ehab that brought up the Everton point. Not us. That was his 'evidence' that the name change would work. If that's the best thing he can come up with, a comparison to a club who has made money by not changing their name, then doesn't that confirm once and for all that there's no case to change the name? EDIT: Sorry I've done Ehab a disservice there, he also made the case that McCoy's crisps have a tiger in their advert, and therefore changing the name is necessary. Seriously, how can anyone hear him make those two points as the basis for changing the name and actually support it?!
But those 'two points' are not the basis for changing the name. They are merely 2 current examples. "what was the advert I saw only the other day, oh McCoy's crisps; what does a tiger have to do with crisp. See, the symbol of a tiger has value". OK, not a great example, but it was only that, a very recent example. With the Everton analogy, that merely demonstrates the sort of shirt sponsorship we could or need to be aiming for, not relative chickenfeed from a **** sponsor like we currently have. Of course we'll likely get a much better deal this time around (summer?), but probably no better, and likely worse, than any of the other bottom half clubs without as he put it a 'USP'. Remember also, Burnsie is a professional journalist (some may not agree ). EA is a businessman.
Too right those points aren't the basis for changing the name, but the fact people are still prepared to believe its anything to do with sponsorship/marketing etc., only serves to make them look and sound somewhat foolish.
Look at sponsorship deals in football & you will see that thee big deals are offered to the clubs which succeed on the pitch, with global exposure earned that way, you don't get it by changing your name. The only ones deluded here are those who still cannot see that this is purely a hissy fit over the disagreement with the council, the same reason we were robbed of a victory parade for promotion
Can anyone give me a rough idea how much the going rate for a shirt sponsor for a club of our stature? If Everton is £5.6m a year I can't see ours being much more then £2m
Considering that our last deal was £1m for three years and even that was dependent on us reaching the Premier League, I'd be surprised if we managed to get over £2m a year.
<-This And as you said elsewhere Burns should have made much more of Ehab's extremely feeble comments supporting the name change.
Agreed, and the Allam's claim is more ridiculous if you consider that the figures they quote are over and above what we'd get as Hull City.
How do the Club know that they've received some blank forms? Are they just basing this on people suspecting it's balnk, or have they checked?
Surely the club cant check if they have not got access to the ballot papers and this is a legitimate poll.
