There were a few who played poorly second half. Allen flanno Johnson and Agger who looked very composed first half. Think I would like to see sakho back there but sure BR won't change a winning team The front two played like strangers.
I am struggling to see why people thought allen was ****e. It was a tight midfield area, he covered well enough, and came forward at times. He didn't lose the ball needlessly. Johnson was ****e, Flanno struggled and so did Skrts and Agger. Or is this the usual we didn't play well lets blame the obvious. Allen = scapegoat
You also have to remember he is helping out young Flannagan , who just lately has started to look a little flakey.
Allen was fine, kept it tidy on Gerrard's left side. If any one should be doing runs forward when SAS is constipated, is Henderson, who held himself back tonight.
If you watched the post-game, Sturridge was asked "how exciting is it to play along Suarez" and his answer was flat "Well, y'know, it's all about the team"... Those two would get to each others throats if it wasn't for Stevie.
Only a young lad who had no chance at the start of the season, now plays week in week out in a title challenging side. Really wish we had Enrique so we could give him a rest for a game or so. Could do with a little weight off his shoulders i reckon.
Thats it KPH, the lad does a job when called upon. He's playing on the left midfield (not his position) protecting a young an inexperienced left back (not his position). I'm not sure what people expect. I thought he did well today, nothing came down the left, their left back couldn't push on, he was strong in the tackle, and he didn't lose the ball needlessly. If you were a neutral watching the game and had no idea who was playing johnson would be singled out as being gash, and suarez would have you wondering what the fuss was about.
Allen does a job which is to give us more ball retention in midfield, which is needed as Gerrard likes to get it upfield quickly which is fine but sometimes you need to get players on the ball for a while to build up momentum in the game. Perhaps today it would have been better to play Stirling from the start and then brought lucas or Allen on once we had established a good lead. SAS had an off day which is gonna happen, I think Suarez can lose his head sometimes he becomes almost manic and ends up shooting himself in the foot sometimes. Sturridge has an an amazing ability to score in games where we play badly, he for me is the reason we are in the title race this year (combined with Suarez's brilliance of course) I can see why he gets frustrated with the Suarez questions as he's scored a lot of important goals this season. Henderson was good again at covering the midfield area I just wish he offered a bit more upfront but maybe thats to do with his role within the team. Ford had a brilliant game, good to see him coming back to good form, could be really important in the run in. The defence was its usual shaky self, I think Johnson was obvious trying to hard to prove himself he should have a calm head given his experience but maybe suffered not having Sterling in front of him. Flanno is young and can't be expected to play like carragher every game but didn't do anything stupid, 2 centre's were average. Its a bit of a shame Sakho got injured when he did, BR is now reluctant to change things up when we have a shot at the title, so Sakho may have to wait till next year to nail down his position in the team.
If i where clever enough to write a full analysis this is what i would have wrote, apart from johnson he was ****e
Certainly not at our best tonight. I'm encouraged by the fact that in recent years this is the sort of game we'd have thrown away. This season we've managed to hold on when not playing well, and fight our way back if we go behind. They are the sort of performances winners need as well as the sparkling fluid stuff we've shown at times.
Last year alone! Same with Swansea was it earlier? Up 2-0 then they claw back but we get the win? Big points in the end.
A draw was at least Sunderland deserved, but that's the way it is going for us at the minute...Good luck from now on..
