If you keep your kid off school without permission you get fined £60 a day.

Sorry <laugh> Definitely in England but not sure if it's anywhere else too. It's designed to stop people going on holiday in term time to get cheap deals.

Think you can be arrested here for it. Took the fruits of my loin to London last month and they had to take the Friday off as it was a 6.30am flight. Had to take the monad off too as spastic features here missed the flight on Sunday night :(

Their Ma hasn't spoke to me since ;)

Fining people for keeping their kids off school is just another unsuccessful way of trying to be PC around dealing with indolent, useless lazy scum parents .. so parents who actually help and encourage their children with both school and a good upbringing have to be seen to be treated in just the same way. Its absolute nonsense. What possible problem could arise from a well brought up kid, who is thriving at school and socially, taking some time off in order to do something which will also help them mature and absorb different experiences ( such as going on holiday ) ... absolutely none, but because some 40-a-day, reality tv-watching, fast-food eating arsehole who shouldnt be allowed a dog never mind kids needs to be induced to do right by their children everyone has to be inconvenienced. Its Broken Britain I tell ya !

Over here Ive never had any problem taking the kids out of school early - even by a couple of weeks - so they can travel, in fact its damn near encouraged.

As a rule I am always puzzled by various bodies or authorities inability to deal with an actual problem on an individual , case by case basis and their need to reach for the lowest common denominator, catch all solution.

    ****s.
