Didn't even look like a foul to me. They both bumped into each other. Diame didn't have control of the ball. But for some reason the trend at the moment is to send keepers off wherever possible, as well as dishing out straight reds for incidents which are also penalties, so he had to go because it ticks two boxes for the ref.
I think if it had been ^that serious, he would've gone off on a stretcher. It's still serious, of course.
McGregor had received treatment on the field immediately after the challenge and Bruce confirmed after the game that there are worries over the damaged caused. "McGregor is in a bad way, kidney damage," the Hull boss said. "A specialist is on his way to see him, it is a contusion on his kidney. We're hoping it's not ruptured. He's gone to hospital and he'll be staying overnight."
I thought when I saw it that he'd stayed down to avoid punishment for the 'foul' which shouldn't have been, though obviously not. The Jaks not on a long term loan is he? Usually I hate us ending players loans early but we need the cover now. Shame for Shagger to miss Wembley, wonder if Harps has ever played there before?
Ruptured is a generic term for damaged, it could be anything from mild bruising to a tear. Need a few more tests and scans to know more.
"CoUrSE oF HEAlINg: After diagnosis and treatment of a kidney contusion serious enough to present blood in the urine, the athlete will need to miss at least two weeks of training and competition. During this period of time, even activities of daily living should be mini- mized and long periods of bed rest are recommended. The athlete must be cleared by the treating physician before he/she can return to training and competition. The athlete should be closely monitored once he/she returns to activity. If there is any recurrence of hema- turia, the athlete will most likely held out of activity for the remainder of the sport season. " Who's next please?
Depending on the extent of the damage and which parts of the kidney are injured it could be season ending. If surgical intervention required could be full recovery but out for a long time or kidney may not recover. Fingers crossed it may just need watchful wait.
Blunt kidney trauma is fairly common, especially as a sports injury. Surgery is generally deferred unless blood loss is becoming critical. Rest and reduced fluid intake for a period is usually sufficient. Depends on the actual diagnosis obviously but a few weeks would probably be the minimum.
