Somebody told me that he has recently been involved in some scheme which takes advantage of vulnerable old people. I thought it was a load of nonsense, but maybe he stooped to that low level.

I remember he kept having money problems with some troublesome people - his problems with drugs haven't exactly been a brilliantly kept secret. Really hope he's turned himself around now.

Heard the same. He is either lieing to get in the papers again(like he has before) or he has admitted his mistakes and getting better.

ah lying! (I'm really sorry for this, I hate the grammar police, but I was thinking for a full minute about what the correct spelling was!)

You spell that fine, Beef. But then you do get a lot of practice. :)

Thought about putting it in your signature..? Then people wouldn't keep on at your spelling. And it would save me from having to remember. :)

I remember when Lundekvam was taking part in some sort of charity golf tournament with Le Tissier and some other ex Saints players, then later that evening we was on the news for having been caught drink driving.

Having met Claus numerous times over the last year at the hotel where I work (he stays over for most home matches) I can honestly say he is a very nice guy. After reading this article and more specifically about his drug addiction I think he has definitely turned his life around for the better.

Best of luck to the guy. A Saints legend and a very sick man, by the sounds of it now getting well.

Ps. Some of those comments in the interview from Gordon Strachan <laugh>. Absolute comic genius, that guy.

Met Lundekvam in a club during his dark days. He was off his trolly, but did pose for a picture. (I had to prop him up a bit).

Have just finished reading Friday Night Lights which touches on ex high school football players who can struggle to replace that "Buzz" and this after only a year or two of living in that bubble.
There is also a decent ESPN documentary about the wrestler Scott Hall who found himself in a similar situation.

Nice lad Claus, if a bit simple. In his early days at Saints, saw him out in town using/chewing that "Snus" stuff that many Scandanavians do. He gave me some to try, was ****ing horrid, like eating cigarette butts.

Thought then that he was a bit "wired" with an addictive personality.

I have no doubts the club was aware of what was happening to him, well before he stopped playing. They turned a blind eye to it back then, hope that's not the case now.

Dunno if they turned a blind eye, or just didn't know how to respond. Addiction is difficult to understand, except by people who have been there. Hence the relative success of groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, and Tony Adams' charity Sporting Chance (the one mentioned in the article), compared to mainstream medical treatment which is often pretty ineffective.
