You can pin all that success on Fergie's lapel, as far as I'm concerned. He deserved to be paid 1b, the maniac son of a b*tch.

Now, you may go out there and try to implement your ( nothing ) incentive plans on an amateur team, feeding and rewarding the poor bastards only AFTER their success, while paying them ( nothing ) before it. Quite sure you'll attract ( nothing ) talent to begin with though.

    Or like any sane person...

Pay someone less to begin with and more as they progress and their influence, worth, becomes bigger.

    I like that way <ok>

You can't hide the take of a true Manyoo fan, a tin-head or a brass-head, or whatever those trophies are moulded in these days. Trophy-obsessed.

All capitalistic systems strive to pay one in proportion to his contribution to a team's performance. Nobody would disagree there. However, success is relative. Trophies are only the top sliver of success.

Success certainly enlarges the cake, yet a good player would be handed a large piece of the cake even before any confetti rained down.

I for one hope that this is just BR doing his spin doctor routine to help Glen find a suitor, or to encourage a bid for him.

If BR is actually wanting to tie Johnson down, I hope Henry puts down his veto bitchslap against any contract extension.

So... UiR's strategy is what LFC have done cos they can't afford stars. It think its fine to pay a KID less and say here's our route to big money. you must accept mercs like pogba, morrison and our own ince will walk.

however Livtor is also right in his point. mature players will simply not join when they can get double off spurs (sigurdsson) or cheslea (willian)

you have to pay the going rate and within your means. after that give performance bonues. thats my opinion.

Harsh. I don't think Brendan is the type of person who'd go that far out with a forked tongue. E.g. before he praised Downing for one performance, he'd gone public with his statement that "Downing and Enrique are fighting for their LFC careers". I think BR really rates GJ. Is it only me and Brendan who rate the lad?

No. I think many of us rate his skills going forward. What a lot of us feel however is that he rarely gives us 100%. Now I went mad when people described Gerrard as lazy so I won't call him that but I do think his workrate can often be improved - as can his crossing accuracy.

Well, if one rates the lad but is frustrated with his disappearing act esp this season (as I am too), then maybe, as befits a supporter, one should give the benefit of the doubt to both GJ and BR when they come out to claim that he had been suffering from niggling injuries. And start with a clean slate.

The coming 8 games will be enough to draw a conclusion from. He's been good so far, esp at Cardiff.

Nope. He's just a sh*t player. The man simply cannot defend to save his life - and whilst he may be caught out of position due to him being high up the pitch, that's not an excuse for simply switching off at set pieces, letting players cross into the box, lapses in concentration.

Personally, I don't think it's a coincidence that since 09 (when the rot began), players like Srktel, Lucas and Johnson became regulars in this team. And during this time, we have praised them to the point where they're Players of the Season. That may be true, but they performed during sh*t seasons where standards obviously dropped.

That's not to say that they're useless or anything - they have a place in the squad. But it looks like we're reaching new levels and we need to improve up on our weak areas. It's time to raise the level of quality.

welll.... look i have questions about agger and skertl is it top 4 is it not... i think right now SAS IS TOP 4. but the real test next year in CL. i think ok you can do what we have done and the opportunity to win the league is NOW.. but next year is different and more intense and you can't get by with everyhting. plus a cup is a must next year.

johnson has league, fa, league cup medals... the lot. is it cos he's on the coat tails of others or cos clubs valued him.... skertl has too.

    Who knows.

in the end you'll know the right thing when you see it. like hyppia, everyone knew it was right. I don't think many look at glen now and say ys this is it do they?

And his positioning and his ability to block a cross, I'm not a huge fan he's not good enough defending and has been poor for many seasons so I'm not buying this injury nonsense. He has played well at times but I'd like us to look for a better option.

I know you want us to buy 2FBs, 1CB, 3CMs and 1F, Jimmy. But revamping a team isn't as easy as when playing football manager. FB and midfield are especially hard positions to buy for, as the player interfaces with more of the play than say a GK, a CB or a striker. Legitimately great players like Ozil and Mata are finding it difficult in midfield. Whereas the last successful FB bought from abroad was Azpilicueta - a Mourinho-moulded soldier - yet he and Ivanovic are so defensive-minded Rodgers wouldn't care much for them.

Take Cissokho - some here saw his play for Valencia and rated the lad - yet he's been a disappointment to say the least.

BR probably thinks it's not that easy to find a good FB and he rather spend his transfer money elsewhere.

    I would say the opposite

CMs and CBs and GKs are crucial spine players i nthe middle touching the ball mose. FB are something you get by on. we got by with jon flanagan and cissohko!

the thing is citys full backs... foreign, chavs.. foreign. the gooners, were foreign but gibbs is gash... ours were foreign (enrique etc) so you can certainly by a cheap one out there in a lot of places and get a great return

The way Johnson has played for the majority of the season I would want to tie him down.........then run the bugger over with a steamroller.

He has played ok the past couple of games, but I suspect this is more to do with wanting a new contract/place in the England squad than anything else. If we could get a decent left back bought/fit I would play Flanno before Johnson, at least you know you will get 100% commitment from Flanno.

But you have to admit that Jimmy does have a desire to buy nearly anybody that most of us have never heard of! <laugh>
