Then sorry but your friend has been very, very badly advised. It's very hard to get it on the playlist, but certainly not impossible with an unestablished act - I've done it. Twice. If your friend paid 25k to a plugger, then that's spectacularly idiotic and clearly the wrong plugger. For Radio 2 you don't want to look any further than a plugger called Nick Fleming Associates. It won't cost you any more than 2-3k, even with bonuses, to get onto the list (or not).

Don't know the details, maybe I exaggerated the sum, but it was more than £3k for sure.

Hahaha, sadly not, but you could get yourself plugged for that. However, they'd need to agree to plug you......that might prove the tricky part......

If your friend wants to try again, then I'd advise her to go through a plugger called Claire Paxton-Rider at Fleming Associates for Radio 2. And not to pay silly money!

I have a song that me and a friend wrote about Morgan Freeman. Who wants to help me get it on the radio?

All radio stations suck in comparison to the magnificent Maebashi FM http://www.maebashi.fm/

Though Radio 1 tends to suck more than most.

That sounds a brilliant song. You have my backing.

Radio 1 suffers from having utter dicks as their hosts/DJ's.

I was never really a big fan, but that was cos I only knew their more famous overplayed songs. Then one day I stumbled upon Eleanor Rigby, which opened my eyes. So then I thought I'd give the rest of their stuff a proper listen. And now luckily I understand what the fuss is all about.

Yeah The Beatles are (obviously) amazing. I'm surprised this discussion is even happening.

They had put out EPs in 91, so I would have thought they probably formed in the 80s.

Agreed, you can't not like the Beatles. Their early work was a bit cheesy and simple, but it was towards the latter half of the 60s where they changed their style and had more dark and complex lyrics. They also had a better and more rock and roll sound to them.

Like you suggest, new music has to start somewhere. It's not so much the records but their influence that is heard today.

From a personal point of view, I preferred post-surfing-sound Beach Boys [so did Paul McCartney incidentally], because they were doing something literally nobody else could do. It is also about the time and connecting with it. If you don't, then all you have left is the quality of the music, and a lot of it doesn't stand up these days. Nevertheless, it will be remembered long after some of the drivel [sorry, stuff I don't care for] being put out today, because not only is/was it innovative, but also pleasing to the ear [to many]

I find nowadays that bands who I like are often influenced by 60-70s sounds, when the music was new and dare I say, melodic..? After watching a documentary repeat of Squeeze, I couldn't stop humming Pulling Mussels from a Shell. Today I have Another Nail in my Heart running through the brain. It's great musical and lyrical pop from an era I can identify with. Some people pooh-poohed it at the time because they could hear nothing but Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Yes, and those sounds are great too. Yet many may find them all totally boring. No connection, no perceived musical merit:

Neither did I. I didn't like their kind of music and McCartney has made it even worse. But I can still say they were a amazing band for what they did for music.

Of course you're not wrong Dan. They just don't appeal to you. As it happens, I have about 4 Beatles albums [I think] and I can't really be bothered to put on a record [just maybe Abbey Road] or call up an mp3 these days because it is all so old hat to me. That, and the fact that I know every bloody track like the back of my hand. :)

Just to change the subject for a second, I see on the BBC Sport website they are displaying a bizarre goal celebration:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26747552

Now I thought, where have I seen that that before..? Ah of course, from the man who has so many reasons to celebrate. Vale got there first in Jerez 2007:

Always been a Stones fan rather than Beatles but love Hey Jude which is a classic - it used to be on the juke box in bars in all the ports around the world in the early 70's and brings back great memories of an exciting and simple way of life at that time.
