Exactly my thoughts this morning. Recent record of his dealing do not show up well, and much worse he plays the long game which only gives the target players a chance to play the field for a better offer. His role should be embassidorial.
Success and failure has to be measured in the context of the teams ahead of us, both here and in CL. City and Chelsea strengthened, and will strengthen even further especially City as they will want to be serious challengers in Europe. For us to get 4th this season just confirms that Arsenal have successfully found and occupied that niche between top title contenders and those snapping to get into the top 4. In reality there is a top 2-3, then Arsenal, then the rest.
The issue with Wenger remaining and making "big changes" is that changes to the squad are not what's needed. Bringing in class players like Ozil, Cazorla won't solve the problem. Bould has started coaching the defense, and for a long while they looked far more solid. This season's long run at the top was built on a firm foundation. The problem is Arsene. He plays one way - the Arsenal way. He's tactically non-existent. Mourinho knew how the team would set up and how they would play, he knows every time they play against Arsenal, so he beats them, always. We can pick at least 8 of the players who will start the game every week. We know the formation, and when we see the team, we can even pick around about what time players will be brought on, and who they will replace depending on whether they're winning or losing. It's predictable. Arsenal have no-one making runs in behind except Ox. Contrast that with Liverpool who have both Suarez and Sturridge making clever runs in behind, turning the defense and making them run towards their own goal. It scares defenders, and it causes goals. That's something you can coach into a player, but it hasn't happened. Yes Theo is missing, and he has pace, but having just two players with any form of pace in a team is ridiculous. That's Wengers fault. He knew Arsenal needed a striker, but he wasted his time on Suarez with a stupid £1 over bid. Yes if it had worked it was smart, but instead of going back when it didn't with another 10m to make them think, he did...nothing. Tried for Ba on the final day of the season and failed, got Ozil who was seemingly only brought in because he was suddenly available, he never seemed like a long-term realistic target, and failed AGAIN to sign a striker in January. There are so many flaws with Wenger - coaching, tactical, motivational - that I can't see him changing them during these "big changes" this summer. He has been found out. His first 500 games were great, the next 300 were almost better as he kept the team in the top 4 with a young squad while building a new stadium. The last 2 or 3 years though, he's simply not been good enough.
Urgh. What a shower of sh*t that was last night. Still, it wouldn't be us if we weren't in our annual fight for 4th place would it?! PS Not read the rest of the comments so if that's echoed then... meh.
Totally agree with everything said but Mr. Wenger says we played with spirit last night so all must be OK. Apparently the players also had a hangover from the Chelsea game.
