Tonight finally felt like a proper game. At times we were put under pressure but there was finally some attacking intent, some shots at goal, good build up play and most of all effort. That was rewarded with the return of some atmosphere! Really good and very important win!!
Certainly sounds as though there is a lot of commitment, which could be the players answering the fans' criticisms? Anyway, a fantastic win, but we mustn't get carried away. Roll on Saturday and Blackpool............one game at a time.
Important thing was the three points. However, with Derby, Wigan, Forest, Reading and Brighton all losing (at the moment, cos Forest and Reading are still playing) it's a very good night for us.
Wouldn't go that far but a vast improvement across the board and much more like the rangers I actually get enjoyment from watching!!
Err, it was a good and just about deserved win, but hardly a dominant and flowing performance. But could be just good enough for us to easily lock down the play off place and give Burnley a scare, as long as we try to win games. An Austin/Morrison combination could be very good to watch.
That's not the point. The point is that tonight we saw a TEAM play. They were playing for each other and playing for the club. That game will do a lot for their confidence as the fans were really behind them and rewarded their effort and there was a good feeling throughout the team. They all worked hard and saw the results.
i don't think things have clicked, it seems rather that the penny has dropped. The effort has improved but the passing is still dire at times. Too many balls being given away. No Benayoun on Saturday. Barton must be doubtful. Good three points. Must keep the momentum going on Saturday.
That was a good battling performance out & thought green was outstanding, our passing was poor at times but it's all about results at this of the season.
What has clicked...is that we are not automatically gifted a win....we have to fight for it...we clicked on that front last Saturday and again tonight. Players realise we have to earn a win...also a few players are stepping up....Bobby run himself ragged tonight...so did young Carroll, saw a lot I liked in him tonight...we might just have a chance( she says quietly...so no-one can hear)
We played as a team, but the obvious (IMO) factor is that Ravel gives us an outlet. He has really started commanding the area behind the front man. When that front man is Charlie, we will see it even more.
A battling performance last night but we really rode our luck at times However, lack of cutting edge is a continuing concern - a lot of talk about Austin's return but we still seem too shot shy. There were a number of instances where we needed that Remy like "run and shoot" mentality. Some of the players didn't want to take responsibility for shooting. We also allowed Wigan far too many opportunities to walk through our midfield and get in decent efforts - we were really pressured for a period in the second half and had luck and poor finishing to thank. On another night with Green not playing well we would've lost That said getting promotion is all about getting results even when not playing your best and no-one can complain about lack of effort last night Roll on Saturday!!
Some good points made here. I agree totally with the opinion it was a good TEAM performance, to a man they seemed to want that win - which is how we should be playing every game though. We still gave up possession far too much and too regularly and gave Wigan too much space in the midfield. However we battled for the ball which was good to see. Tom Carroll had his best game for us so far although he still runs round in circles when he has no pressure on him! Rob Green was easily MOTM in my opinion with some excellent saves throughout the game but then even he had a few moments when he was slow to collect loose balls. Morrison was kept quiet and was clearly getting frustrated by midway through the second half, he needed that free kick to go in to settle him really. Overall with other results last night, today is a good day to be a Ranger.
Sorry awjm, but since your revealed on the "Barton at the Oxford Union' thread that you "don't actually believe in right and wrong" I find it difficult to take anything you post seriously. I did see the game last night, and it is good that the players know that all they need to do to get the crowd behind them is to show some effort. But the game could easily have been drawn or narrowly lost. I'm happy with the result and effort, having long since given up expecting scintillating football from this team and lowered my expectations accordingly. And in this league I think these players showing the right level of commitment is good enough.
I don't know what the context was in which that remark was made but to be honest Stan, I'm starting to think that way myself.
What, you don't believe in right or wrong either? I can provide a short and simple list of questions to help you decide.....
