We mugged Derby County Tonight. I don't think we managed to string more than 3 passes together all night. Hawkings is correct about the referee. He was awful. Luke Hyam is League 2 at best.
I have to admit that I don't think Mick would be playing this way if Skuse was available. Whatever works though, I'm happy that we still having something positive to play for with eight games to go.
All a bit negative; Hyam had a decent game tonight, breaking up play well & giving the ball simple. Our CBs played well. Williams was the best player on the park...the reason we found it hard to string to many passes together was probably down to Derby kicking our players up in the air for most of the 1st half.! Martin was fortunate not to see red tonight..
Yeah, sorry Hoppers ,it was a bit negative. I'll tell you something for nothing though; I was sat in the lower North and the reaction of the Derby defenders when they conceded the corner kick at the death revealed a lot. They had obviously been told of the dangers. It was as if Town had won penalty. That's probably why they kicked seven shades of **** out us in the midfield.
Saw the goals again on SSN. Williams' goal was a blinder. The angle was even tighter than it looked at the time, but Berra's was more than just a tap in. He was almost horizontal when he hit it. Two cracking goals were the highlight of an otherwise pretty dire performance. McLaren should be ashamed of Derby's performance in the first half. It was more UFC than Championship football. Chris Martin should be banned for his attack. Cheats never prosper.
What team in their right mind would want to face three centre backs all good at scoring from corners - teams are set up to defend against two centre backs, turns out MM is a genius after all!
Warky and myself have said all season the play offs were a possibility. We get a load of rubbish off people game after game, season over rar rar rar. 8 games to play, 2 points off the play offs, if half of you had your way we'd be playing the kids. Come on, who is going to give Mick a HELL OF A LOT of credit for getting this average poor side to within a shout of the play offs!?!??! Forest are on mission self destruct, gotta fancy us to do what Keane couldn't do ONCE in his two years in charge sat, three on the spin. McGoldrick injured,,,,, season OVER???!!! Come on guys, believe !!!!!
Last night showed a never say die attitude and not a roll over and die. Results went our way last night and doesn't just keep us in the mix its puts us right in it. Forest are in free fall so surely 3 points are achievable Saturday. Yes we need results to keep going our way but the dream of play offs is alive and kicking. There's been enough of us here constantly saying we can sneak in and also enough writing us off. Either way come the end of season it's gonna be close. I still believe. Coyb.
Westy there's more than just yourself and JWM who've said playoffs were a possibility, although I moan about Mick I've never written us off. I think you'll find even a couple of weeks ago when people were saying it may be blind faith but I still believe, I was saying it's not even blind faith, logic suggested we still had a chance. It's still gonna be difficult and I still think we might just miss out, I've always thought it'll go down to the last couple of games in the season and that'd we'd just fall short but given how consistent we've been throughout the season and how the teams at the bottom start picking up results you can never write us off. Mick deserves alot of credit for getting this very average side to where it is but despite this as I've always said with the talent he has as a manager I still think he could do more in games and alot of it is self fulfilling in terms of being an average side for he is the one who favours average/poor players. It's easy for alot of us to be really positive because alot of us don't go to matchs very often but if you're paying alot of money to see average spoiling football I can see why people get put off. It's like Norwich under Houghton they look bang average and I can understand why supporters are frustrated but if you look at their position and points he's doing a very good job. No doubting IMO Mick could potentially be one of the best managers we've ever had but he won't be because he eeerss on the side of caution and limits his own talents
Fair enough ITFCPTC, understand what you're saying. You have also got behind us. The whole style of play argument does make me laugh. People nowadays demand to be entertained with their money. In an ideal world, sure, we'd play teams off the park every week. However, give me three points with a team top 10 over a Jewell side that often played great football bottom of the league any day. I just find at times myself and Warky are often from the same viewpoint. We've been ridiculed all season for believing in our team, and our ABSOLUTELY CLASS manager considering what he has to work with. Even should the final eight games go sooo wrong, Mick McCarthy, you are pure class and we are a damned lucky club to have you. Literally no other manager I can see who would have done such a fine job in eighteen months. Keane did the complete opposite, took us from 9th to 24th and wasted over 10mill....... NICE. I think the style of play will develop nicely next season too. Wordy is having a run in the side, players know what's expected of them. It's a case of sorting out the key issues first, then allowing the others to develop. Common sense really! Make a side tough to beat, then go for more. We'll absolutely for sure be top 6 next season should we fail to get there this, I have no doubt about this at all. We're heading completely in the right direction. 8 to play, 2 off the play offs, COME ON YOU BLUUUUEEESSSSSSSSSSS !
We're all different. All depends if you're content with mediocrity at the end of the day. I am for this season, don't be in any doubt about that. It's an improvement but we've had some wonderful footballers and managers at our club as well as some diabolical ones - and at the moment McCarthy looks as though he'll be somewhere in the middle The question of whether we can or can't make that gap up is not decided yet, so I would get off your high horse on that one Westy. If it doesn't happen I'm not going to be coming back at the end of the season and deride people for having blind faith.
Hampy we have been mediocre for the best part of 10 years! McCarthy was appointed with the priority of keeping us in the division and now in his first full season he has got us to the brink of the playoffs without spending any money on transfers! That is remarkable and for you to say that he will rank as a middling manager in our history is just plain silly!
He has not even achieved what Bill McGarry and John Lyall did - in fact not even what Joe Royle did - let alone Burley, Ramsey or Robson. Of course he will go down as somewhere in the middle until such time as he at least has a top half top flight finish. The fact you would even entertain such a notion just shows how far standards and expectations have dropped under Marcus Evans.
Have we not had this debate most of season. Micks tactical limitations,Micks too defensive. Whatever our opinions we've not had to look over our shoulders all season,we're on the brink of the top 6. Surely we're all in agreement this is a vast improvement on previous years. We haven't taken an annual thumping,we've mixed it with the top teams, albeit losing points to some we shouldn't. I'm more than happy with what we've done this season and a mere 20k or so spent. Ill take the ugly football if we ended up in prem.
Its called dealing with reality Hampy, maybe you should try it! We are no longer living in the 1960s, 70s or even 10 years ago! Football has moved on and the landscape we find ourselves in these days is far removed from then! Blame Sheepshanks if you want to really blame someone for our demise as it was under his watch that the finances went pear shaped! It was under his watch that we entered administration whilst he drew a big fat salary. It was under his watch that we sold our soul to Marcus Evans!
