Jermain Defoe continued his decent start for his new club in Canada, scoring the only goal in Toronto's win over DC United on the weekend: It was nice to see that someone at Tottenham had the decency to send him a public message in his first home game, via the advertising hoardings: Best of luck Defoe18, from all your friends at Tottenham Hotspur. To Dare Is To Do. Half message to our old player and half advert, I think!
I've never seen anything like it, and I thought it was class. The club has done little things I've very much appreciated, like being really friendly and helpful on the phone, and sending some fantastic birthday cards (for a modest sum) that arrived on the exact right day from across the ocean ( or would have, if they weren't laboring under the illusion that 5/8 is August 5th.)
Great touch from the club, shows how appreciated he was. I can see him tearing up the MLS, he's still good enough to play in any top league in Europe. Hopefully he can bag enough goals to get a seat on the plane to Brazil.
*sniff* that's dust in my eyes and I have allergies *sniff* He'll always be a Yiddo. I just wonder if he saw it?
If anyone hasn't seen this Video, "Jermain Defoe - Goodbye Tottenham 2014 "...Although the usual annoying dance music!
Just seen this on YouTube and was gonna post it, but glad I checked first! I think it's mint to see a club pull out such a gesture, patchy as the lad was, he didn't half rattle some goals in, and he loved your club. Love owt like this
Defoe's third game didn't go quite as well, with Ryan Nelsen seemingly making a mistake by picking him. He was feeling his hamstring from the start and had to be removed after an hour. His side lost 3-0 to Real Salt Lake, which is a bloody awful name for a team.
You guys never did anything like that Robbie Keane Big thanks for letting to LA though, been the best player in MLS by some distance since he arrived. On the other end of the spectrum is Carlo Cudicini, he was far and away the worst GK in MLS in his short time here.
The premier league is still waiting for Bruce Arena. Get him to send his CV to Daniel Levy, Although send it special delivery to make sure it arrives!
He probably would have done had he not requested the move to Pool. Still a legend but there was always that sour taste when he left, when he returned he was ****e for the most part too. Plus, Defoe loved us and only us and we loved him back, it was like a perfect relationship, where as Keano was a slut, he loved Wolves, Celtic, Spurs, Liverpool and god knows how many others!
Everyone loves a good slut though! It will be interesting to see his Defoe's season goes, Toronto have an underperforming team, but they've made some off season transfers.
